We have a farm on the opposite side of KC from you, it is unbelievable how big the deer get compared to the dinks in TX.

Unfortunately, the locals in the small town seem to think our farm is their farm and it makes hunting tough, especially for late season does.

I love any outdoor activity. I fish for specks and reds in the spring and summer. Red snapper during the snapper season then move into hunting come labor day weekend with dove. The 10/1 deer archery opens. I do that till rifle opens the last weekend in October. I hunt deer till just after thanksgiving when the rut is over then it is time to chase ducks and geese. If I'm not doing something outdoors something is wrong.
Matter of fact I'm sitting in the deer stand now

Stand choice for the afternoon hunt. Checked the pictures on this stand after the morning hunt had had a group of skillet heads every afternoon for the last week. Yesterday they had a 8 point checking them out. Only about a 35 yard shot so I broke out the stick and string going to throw some carbon fiber at them this afternoon if they come out and I can still see my pins.

Ol’ Split had won.
What a great story! And very well written! You ought to submit that to American hunter or something.

Cheers!

Thanks guys.

My story was actually published by Field and Stream. One of their editors read it on a hunting forum, and contacted me for permission to publish it on their website. It was the featured story for about 2 weeks.

Now that I think about, Field and Stream never paid me the agreed to amount for the rights to publish it. Oh well, I didn't write it to get paid, anyway.

Keep the wind in your face, and shoot straight, this fall, gentlemen.

Matt

I bought my jeep for getting around in the woods at a deer camp in N Mississippi. I live in New Orleans and enjoy driving it to the snowball stand with my boys. Just getting into learning about my new toy, trail riding sounds like a fun time, might try that in the future. But I got alot of work to get done on it before rifle season starts.

I started on this little project yesterday, sorry I didn't think to take before pics. It is a new england single shot 20ga, It was a dark stain on it but it didn't show the grain in the wood very well, so I sanded all off and going to take it into work with me and get one of the painters to shoot it with automotive clear. Here is what it looks like before the clear.

Geeez, those little 20s are murder on the shoulder! Sold all three of the ones I had (yeah, three of those suckers!) and bought a Mossberg 500 pump in 20. MUCH better gun to shoot. $225... a good deal with Accu-choke system.

Kerrdog
Go Fish! <*////><

But the right word at the right time... "Hey, give me a little hug!" That's the difference between lightning and a harmless lightning bug!

Think those are bad? Try a double barrel 12 with a 21 inch barrel and a very small pad, it's a little hard on the shoulder but I love to shoot it even tho I pay for it later.
