What a weekend.

Finally got the upper end repaired on the motor with all new push rods and a lifter, we got it fired up again.

CLANG CLANG CLANG....crap.

Took the oil pan off, #3 and #4 bearings were gone on the rods. skirts broke off of 2 of the pistons. Crankshaft gouged bad from lack of bearings.

At that moment I thought my project was done because there is no way I can afford a total rebuild.

Then, my friend called his cousin up that has a late '70s Jeep Grand Wagoneer. We went down to look at it. After 20 minutes of cleaning the nuts out of the engine bay, we hooked up my new battery, through some gas in the carb, and it fired up! Purred like a kitten too. Got the Wagoneer for a good deal. Hopefully he'll clean it out during the week so we can go pick it up next weekend.

So, right now the Mengler is sitting in the I.C.U. without a motor waiting on a donor.

Both front and rear bumpers are on again.

Debating whether or not to tear down the motor or leave it for the next guy.

Hopefully more pictures this weekend.

Motor is out of the donor Jeep Wagoneer. We've been working on getting her clean, painted, and old manifolds off before throwing it back in the car. Suppose to rain here the rest of the week unfortunately. I'll keep ya posted.

Saw a bug body used to do this.
It was cool. This has some cool to it.
Will be better once you have some meats under it.

My metro-freak buddy is sitting next to me saying things like, " cool, that thing looks great!" and "I was gonna do that if I ever had enough money" but it's pretty obvious he thinks it's a great ride. Me, I'm pretty much in favor of putting a nice CJ body on it but hey, it doesn't look that bad actually and it must've been a LOT of work getting it to where it's at now and ya gotta respect that!. Can't wait to see the "all done" pics. Great job so far, now quit reading and get it done!

I have owned an 87 sprint and a 95 geo metro. I thought both cars would have made cool little off roading toys. I wasn't far off I like it. Keep us updated.

Motor is in. We almost had it running, then something electrical happened. While cranking it over, no spark. In the run position, it'll spark, but since the starter is not engaged it can't turn over and start. Any ideas of what it could be, go to this thread:

http://www.jeepforum.com/forum/f8/amc-360-only-fires-when-i-stop-cranking-788826/#post7325633

So close, yet so far away.

This project won't stop fighting me!

Finally got it running last night. Ran for 5 minutes. Then BOOM.

Distributor gear failed. Now I have to tear down the front, get the pieces out, buy a new gear and try again

Got the steering welded in this weekend! Also reinstalled the drive shafts. Hopefully the gears come in early this week and get the motor fired up.

Anyone else find it ironic that he put the body of a fuel saver with an engine that gets 10 mpg?
