CJ heater upgrade

Ive read on other forums (can't seem to find it for the life of me) of guys upgrading their blower motors to crank out more heat. I just cant remember what motor they used in place of the jeep one. I just put a full soft top on my scrambler and the added hot air would be awesome for these cold days in the mountains.

I have not done it on my 84 but a friends 83 really puts out much more heat. Worth the trouble!

Thanks, that's exactly what I'm looking for. The stock blower was fine with just the half hard top but now with the full soft top it stands no chance.

Anyone know where I can get a new blower motor "fan" wheel ? Napa and Autozone only have one for factory installed A/C, which I don't have. Does that matter and if so how much ? Can the a/c wheel be modified ?

OReiley. It does make a difference as the shaft lengths are different. A/c is longer and won't work it binds. Try a junk yard.

I did the Blazer blower motor upgrade with great results. The fan pumps out a lot of hot air. The only drawback is that the rush of air is noisy but I'd rather have noise than be cold.

I'm only looking for the "fan" which is more like a wheel. I have the motor.

I picked up a heater core and blower motor from Napa today. I'm going to install them on Sunday. I'm still looking for the "fan". Anybody know where I can get one other then a junk yard ?

Not familiar yet with all the details of the swap but are you looking for the squirrel cage for a jeep or chevy? Check Rockauto.com they showed one for a jeep I am sure they would have a chevy or check a local salvage yard.

you can check on www.car-parts.com for a used one. I did this upgrade and now my defroster actually works. You could hardly even tell when the old Jeep blower was on it put out so little air.

I am getting ready to pick up a new blower wheel to go along with the PM102 motor upgrade for my 1983 CJ7, as well. I plan to order one from Napa, but still need to pull mine out to get exact measurements.

Supposedly, according to Napa's online search, BK 6551425 should fit. It doesn't look right to me, though. Maybe it only fits Jeeps with factory A/C (just a guess).

Between Balkamp, Napa Temp, and
TW
I am sure one will work.

BK 6551414 looks pretty close (I did some rough measurements with the wheel still in the plenum).

I plan to pull mine out and check, but it may be a while before I get time.

Blower Motor Rotation : Clockwise
Shaft Size : 5/16"
Width :
Diameter :
Offset :

Does anyone happen to have one handy that wouldn't mind measuring the diameter, width and offset depth?

Every where I look, for this wheel, they all say ( with factory installed a/c ) which I don't have. What I want to know is, does it really matter and if it does what's the difference in the wheel dimensions ? a/c verses no a/c ?

From my VERY rough measurements (with the wheel still in the plenum) the wheel for my '83 CJ7 (w/o factory A/C) needs to be around 5.75" in diameter and 2.5" in depth, much different than the one being sold for Jeeps w/ A/C (which have a depth of 3 3/8" and diameter of 4 7/16"). My guess is the A/C version passes though the hole in the plenum were as mine sits behind it.

It should be easy to find one that will work with exact measurements. Unfortunately, I need to remove the plenum to get at the wheel for accurate measurements, and I don't have time for that right now.

I hope that helps.

I am in the process of rebuilding my heater box also. Blazer motor upgrade. My wheel (fan, squirrel cage) or whatever you want to call it is broken. I got one from NAPA and it wouldn't fit. The offset depth is to deep, smaller diameter, and wider bodied fan. Oreillys, Autozone and everywhere else on the net I can find all call for this same wheel and its the wrong one. Even checked with the local HVAC warehouse just off of dimensions. Have you had any luck finding one? I've resorted to calling junk yards all over the country looking for a used one. Collins bros is checking their used parts as I am typing....Anyone have any ideas?
