Well, you can always stay in Ohio while I go to your place in Charleston (spelling). LOL. Me and the wife are planning on moving to SC within the next 5 years..
Anyways, I plan on maybe stopping over there tomorrow, if not, sometime this weekend.

So I finally found the time to knock on the door to ask about the Jeep. A lady answered and I asked her about the Jeep and she said it's her husbands and that he wants to fix it up. We both joked around because it hasn't moved in 8+ years.
She took my number and said she would speak with her husband about getting rid of it. So I guess we'll see what happens......

Sure, com'on by and pick it up. Make sure you bring your wallet with you full of some fat cash. If there's any chance I do get it, I will more than likely flip it as one CJ is enough for me.

I drive the same roads around here.

That overpriced 3B is still sitting under a tarp a few miles from home.

So I finally was able to catch the owner of this 5. I happened to be right behind them going down their street. I pulled into the driveway and struck up conversation with the owner. The guy had thoughts about getting it back on the road, but never had the time.
So I verified that the body is indeed fiberglass. The gentleman is the original owner and its an 81 CJ5 with a 4 cylinder engine that has a whooping 38,000 miles on it. The tires are toast and the rims are peeling. The interior is super clean and has all the original items such as ciggy lighter, ash tray, windshield motor cover, carpet, seats, etc. He also stated that the master cylinder is shot and needs to be replaced.
Anyways, he said that he would throw a battery charger on it and get it fired up. He will call me when that happens so I can go over to hear it run. I asked him prior to firing it up if he could change the fluids just in case. He has no issue with that.
Anyways, I told him that I'm interested in it and if the asking price is out of my range that I would help him sell it. He asked for an offer, but I'm not sure what kind of numbers I should throw his way. What do you guys think?

I'd put it on him to price it. Just my 2 cents!

38,000 without being flipped. I think when we were talking about offers, neither of us wanted to break the ice. I didn't want to throw a number out to insult him. I told him that I wanted to do my homework before providing him an offer.

It hasn't moved in 8 years. $500 is a reasonable starting point.

Ya gotta figure he paid that for the tub. Semi-irrelevent I know, but that is the way he's gonna look at it. $500? He likely knows he could get that for the hardtop.
Tricky poker you're playing here. $1500 wouldn't bury you in it, if it is what he claims, and no worse. And the wife would be happy to see it go. Hubby might be happy to see it go to a good home and let it go for cheap.
Just pray that he's not crazy, wanting the original window sticker+ every dime he put into it over the years. Good Luck!

Sorry but $500 is an insult and wouldn't even think of offering that.
