went for a "quick" look at a cj for sale today, wondering if price hes asking is worth it... was asking 3500 but said he cant go any less than 2000
304 v8 (said it was bored)
odom says -72xxx, not sure about engine miles if different
he wasnt sure if it had a 6 or 8 inch lift, said prob. 6in.
35 super swamper-good tread left, relativly new with black rims(looked good)
just replaced front seal and breaks
working on rear seal (bad leak) when i got there (said he wont even bother with it if he sells for 2000)
has exhaust leak where pipe meets manifold (cant get dounut gasket to hold)
cracked winshied, pretty bad-3 diff spots
said something about the frame had been restored, frame and underbody looked to be coated(black)
body had minor rust and minor paint chipping -flat black paint
hard top only with area under back glass hatch pretty rusted
front sway bar was disconn. not sure if he has re-conn.
winch (painted black aswell not sure make or size, guessing 8-9000lb)
2 front fog lights
cd player with speakers (not a big concern to me, but nice)
i believe he said its not street legal due to exhaust problem
started right up, sounded good
sorry no pics right now, i took a bunch, i cant find the damn USB cord to go from camera to comp. will post asap
Its decent if nothing else is wrong. What did he do to the frame and why? The leaks are a problem if not dealt with quickly. As for the rust depends how bad and how much there is since most can be fixed easy. Id find out more about why it isnt street legal because the leaky exhaust isnt the whole story to it. Pics will help a lot more. The exhaust is a easy fix as well took me 30 min to remove both headers and all the pipes from my jeep and then another 30 to put it back on.
forgot to mention:
he said a main reason its not street legal is that it has no steering stabilizer
im not sure but i dont think its that hes trying to hide something, hes a kid that would just rather have a bike, i believe he bought the jeep the way it is
Personally, I would pass on it for that price. My expierience has always been that the more people have screwed with vehicles, the worse shape they're in. A good example is the shackles are bent from probably either not using the right bushings or the right shackles all together.
