CJ-8 To restore or not to restore?

Found this online for $1200 about 2hours from my house...might be a diamond in the rough if it's not rusted through...but i doubt it...
_______
ad reads:
I have a Jeep Scrambler with a Olds 350. All of the drivetrain is in working order, but motor needs minor work. I have recently rebuilt the Holly carb. new wires, roter, cap, plugs, and radiator. Would make a great hunting vehicle. Asking $1200.00
_______

i'll post up more pics hopefully, if i can get up there tomorrow or this weekend to see how much Father Time has eaten away at it. still waiting on email response from seller as to the usual questions of rust and cracking, etc.

$1200 sounds like alot for a hunting buggy. If it looks like it's a project you think you can do then show up with $800 in cash and offer him $500.

It's a Scrambler.

I'd buy it if the rust was limited to normal floor pans and rocker areas.

What is that thing hanging down under the pass side?

I agree.

Seems like you could get something a little less questionable for $1200.

looks like a body lift or maybe some sort of running board/step

yeah it's a scrambler but it looks like it's been out in the rain the past 20 years.

investing in a moneypit like this is a bad idea whether it's 500 or 1200, but if i could get it running in decent shape, it'd be worth it in the long run

...and if it's worth every bit of $1,200, make the 4 hour round trip back home to get the rest of the $$$, hoping someone else doesn't snatch it up?

I've said it before, and I'll say it again;

It doesn't matter how much or what type of Jeep, If you ask about it here, someone will tell you it's a steal, others will say don't bother, and a few will ALWAYS tell you to offer less, regardless of it's actual worth. just my

you can't touch a CJ 8 around here EVER under $2k, but to make a good decision on the limited info is impossible.

hell, you can rarely find ANY jeeps around here for $1,200.

road trips are fun, and you never know until you actually see it.

Don't get me wrong, I agree that any Scrambler is either going to be big bucks or a big project. I'd definately make the trip just to get a chuckle out of seeing the safari seat mod in the back
Cash on hand can make for a quick sale at a low price. If not, then you have a nice down payment.

Hell, I'd take along 6-8 buddies, and give those running boards a good ol' fashioned posse trial...

I'd tap that... er... I mean it looks like a really good deal if you ask me. I would kill to have a Scrambler in any condition. Asking $1200 usually means he will probably take $1000. In any event, as long as the rust isn't major, it looks like a steal at any price under $2000...

Did you get it? I was thinking about driving up there too to check it out seems like a really good deal for a scrambler running or not.
