Cj 5 tubs

I have a 1980 cj5 that's rough shape but I just found a 55 tub how hard will it be to make this work

Major changes were made to the CJ line in 1976.
They look similar, but the early & late CJs have different floorpans and body mounts.

But how hard would it be to modify it to work vs fixing my old one

It would be a LOT of work. The floor is completely different. So is the firewall.

Nobody has any idea how much work your existing tub needs, so a comparison isn't really possible.

Needs a lot of work body mounts r rusted off the tub firewall has holes thru front floors need replacing rear wells would need to be patch hole under roll bars the cowl braces r gone by where they meet the floor rocker panels have fist sized holes in the
The tub I found the guy says its on a boxed frame so that can't be a 66 could it I thought they had a c channel frame

Anyone could have boxed the frame under the '66 sometime in the last 46 years.

Sounds to me like you'd be best served with some patience and find a tub that will work with minimal modification, ie '76 and up.
