Skipper- I just got home from work and the "Commander in Chief" has me heading over to the beach to a "going away party" for some friends that are moving back to Ohio! Insert joke here, and my apologies to our Ohio friends on the Forum.

The bad news is, I can't paint my stainless bolts till I get back home tonight. The good news is there will be plenty of Gin N Tonics at this party.

My goal is to show you that windshield tomorrow, Scott. I promise! I'm also prepping the interior for the Raptor Liner. Whoohoo!

Geez.....another smokin' hot, humid day and spent tons of time on the Jeep with little progress to show for it. The main objective was to get the interior prepped for the bedliner. There was a good bit of rust under the roll bar mounts (most of it was surface rust that I've ground down, and am treating with POR 15 before putting the raptor liner in). One spot on the front rollbar mount on the drivers side required me to cut and weld in a new piece of sheet metal.
Heres the nasty thing when I pulled the seats this morning:

And the "oh so safety oriented PO's seatbelt mess"


The biggest pain today (besides trying to fit my hand up behind the cowl to secure the nuts/bolts on the windshield hinges) was a frozen torx bolt on the front passenger side. It stripped easily as you can imagine, so I had to weld a nut to it, and lay down copious amounts of PB Blaster. I don't know how I ever survived without my MIG machine...


Biggest noticeable accomplishment was putting the windshield back on. This ones for you Skerr!!



By the way, see the crooked hood? LT1 was right. Friggin aftermarket fender holes don't line up right on the passenger side. I'll have to massage all of that mess once I finish the Raptor liner. :

Tomorrow at some point I have to sand down the old paint and HOPEFULLY spray the liner in by Monday night, latest, before I travel again. I'll post pics when I'm done with the Raptor Liner.

WOW!! Worth the wait! That really pops. Very nice pman. Can't believe you have such a beautiful tub with that nasty mess inside. Good luck on on the liner too. From what I have seen it will make it look immaculate.

Gotta decide if I like the black or tan WS frame better. Roommate says keep it tan. Have to get with Clay.

No... I think yours is awesome. If I had my way Clay's would also be black. You'll be able to see Clay's installed... maybe it will help you decide?

Had an overnight trip in Greenville, SC, and was able to leave around noon today, with hopes of finally spraying the tub with Raptor. The wind has been howling all week, then stormed one afternoon, so I haven't had a good window of opportunity to do it. Got home around 4p with storms brewing about 20 miles inland, and was wondering if I'd have to once again wait to spray this stuff. To top it off, the wind had picked up a little. I got everything masked off, and was determined to go ahead with it even if I had to keep it in the garage and open up the doors and crank up the box fans. I ended up pushing it halfway out the garage to keep the fumes at a minimum.
I barely used 3 bottles. This stuff is hysterically easy to apply. I bought the kit that included the Schutz gun, which I highly recommend doing. Those of you who've done a little paint slinging on cars will find this process laughable. It's pretty hard to mess up.

Just returned home after spending a week in Ormond Beach. Was a fun trip with family as usual, but I'm itchin' to get my hands back on this project and get it to the point where I can drive it again. I sprayed the Raptor Liner in a week ago Thursday, so it's had plenty of time to "gas off". That stuff smells strong. All good now, though.

While I was in Ormond, I took my son and 2 nephews to "Toy Box Jeeps", a CJ restoration specialty shop. I've made a couple of trips there before, and Pete (owner) is always incredibly nice and doesn't mind you walking around the shop drooling over the CJ's. The unfortunate part about this trip is there weren't any finished CJ's on the lot. Last time I visited he had two CJ8's and a 7 finished and ready for delivery to the customer's. They were flawless. I did managed to take a couple of shots (terrible and fuzzy), but figured I'd throw them on here anyway. These simply don't do their work justice. There were several Jeeps indoors that had been dropped off to have different mechanical work performed on them. I need to dig up some photos from my previous trip and post those so you can see their finished product.

P.S. A completely rebuilt CJ8 will set you back about 38k loaded out. Wheew!

Hey Swamp Thing! I can't believe I missed the Raptor shoot! Sorry about that. It looks incredible!

Welcome home. I think it's interesting that a shop can specialize in Jeeps and have that many of them in line. I wonder if going into business would ruin a good hobby?

Thanks Scott! Working on the seats and trying to square away the front clip/hood today.

I agree, if you start doing that for a living, does it take the fun out of it? Wait a minute, this is FUN?

A dimly lit poser shot before I trounce off to bed... Got all of the "little" things painted (wiper arms, new door hinges, footman loops, bumpers, hood vent, etc, etc) and reinstalled. Also installed new taillights and the oem stickers on the rear. Pretty much done except for the dash and the underside of the hood.

Got to replace a rear ujoint and the rear axle pinion seal and it's time to hand it over to the "commander in chief" (wife unit). I'll try to take a few more pics in the daylight over the next couple of days.

Thanks David! Yes, I have a whole new (dis)respect for the aftermarket parts for these things. I had to grind the inner lip of the rear of the hood to get it to fit without scraping on the cowl of the tub. It's also missing the center brace that adds rigidity to the OEM hood. My young son wanted sit on the hood the other day and I swatted him away like a fruit fly (well, not physically) knowing it'd probably dent that easily. By the way, it's an Omix-Ada hood. The Crown fenders seemed better (Mfg by Cobra King-Taiwan), but they were also slightly off, meaning the passenger side bolts holes didn't line up, which had me swearing/cussing trying to square everything up. :

Looking great, nice job! Raptor turned out awesome!

I had the same issues with the Cobra King passenger's side fender. Everyone complains about the passenger's side fitment. It is obvious their tooling is off but they must not know it, or more likely, don't care.
