Going to enjoy watching the transformation. Ever get frustrated, give me shout. I'll tell you how much worse it could be. : )

I hope to have new pics up soon. It's been frustrating, since I've got the holes filled, rust removed/repaired and the tub sanded. Time for paint, but can't seem to get rid of the other side projects/weekend distractions lately. Was in Pawley's Is. with the family last weekend, have a fishing tournament I'm running tomorrow (then it's Mothers Day Sunday), then next weekend is a bluegrass festival/camping event. My priorities are out of kilter. Paint's going on Turd Ferguson in two weeks whether it likes it or not. I'll be posting then!

Finally, an update on Turd Ferguson. I kept finding little nitpicky things to repair (and found another rusthole on the floorpan next to the driver side rocker that had to be welded prior to laying on any new paint), and weekends have continued to get consumed with "other" priorities, like buying a new Elk rifle. Well today I finally got up the energy to build my redneck paint booth and sling on the primer/sealer. I'm using LIMCO 800k primer, and the first thing that I discovered is this stuff is a little thick, and I should have reduced it a bit since I'm shooting the whole thing (primer/base/clear) with a 1.4 tip. It just made for a slow process, but it's done and my next step is to sand it, shoot the base coat (Cameo Tan) and the clear. If I can stay out of the boat and gin-n-tonics I'll get it finished next weekend.

I put a small window unit in the garage to try to keep the temps down. Today it was smokin' hot and humid. Little A/C isn't cutting it so I've got a feeling I'm going to have to use the slow reducer on the clear to keep the orange peel at bay. Why do I always wait until summertime to paint these blasted things???

I know how you feel about the small nit picky things getting in the way, they just keep popping up every time you turn around. I bet it must feel really good to finnaly have some primer on that thing though. Nice progress!

David, you threw me off with the new user name! Wasn't it littledochawk or something like that? I'll have to go check out your build progress!

Scott, I ended up getting a Rem 700 in plain ole 30-.06. Getting a trigger job on it right now. I was going to take my .270 out there, but just wanted some extra stopping power in case the ole elk doesn't give me the best angle. I've had a 7mm mag (Ruger) in the past, and wish I still had it. Decided against a more "exotic" chambering since I have enough weird ones (including a .375 rem ultra mag) that cost an arm and leg to buy ammo for. Now come take this boat off my hands so I can stay focused!!!!!!

Ooooooo... wasn't expecting that! Now I'm going to have to leave my wife and kids and head north!!

What grain bullet do you shoot elk with?? Like 200 grains, or can you go smaller than that? I don't like shooting 200 grain bullets!

Hehehe... My wife would be thrilled. She wants me to get a bigger boat but I like to go after those redfish in the skinny stuff!

I'm going to use 180 grain bullets. After the trip I'll throttle back to 150 grain for the whitetails. You should shoot the .375rum! 300 grain bullet and it kicks like a mule! I need to put it on Craigslist in Alaska!

Oh ya I had Keith switch it for me a while back, glad you figured it out.

Hand her the rod next time you hook into a 27incher on 10# mono! Then she'll be sitting in the boat while it's in the driveway... just waiting...

The biggest rifle I have fired was a Weatherby 460mag that a friend bought. He was afraid to shoot it first! It had been magna-ported, and it really wasn't bad shooting a 500 grain bullet. But I wouldn't want to do it all day! I'm not a big fan of 180s either, nowadays... I guess I weenied-up as I got older!!

FINALLY got the Basecoat on this afternoon! The color looks a little darker inside the garage than it actually is (Cameo Tan). If I was a single man I'd be spraying the clear on it tonight. This part is always easy, but shooting the clearcoat is what has me trembling in a corner knawing on my fingernails. Last time I did clear I had orange peel like no tomorrow, so I'm hoping I can keep the garage cool enough to keep it smooth.
Not sure why I wear the Tyvex suit. I should go commando under it next time..yeah, TMI!

I was running out of room, so I laid the hood in place over the engine and painted it there:

I had to check the living room to see if all the painted parts are still there! Thought maybe you made a Commando raid while I was gone! Guess I better grab another gear because you're about to pass me... Looks GREAT!

Ha! If I'd had sense enough to think I could sneak over to your place and raid it for the painted parts, I would have! Man I hope that clear comes out ok. I need to head over to your thread to spy on you and see if I can pass ya now.

I think, officially, you did. We still have to paint our grill. I think we're going to have to sandblast it again.
