Push the little lever down with a finger while rotating the cylinder back. That's how it's supposed to work.

CSP, that is what I thought, but the lever does not go down, I force it a little and it does not go down, I will try it again this afternoon and see if I can get it to work.

I was able to move the lever down, so the ignition switch is working properly. Thanks for all your help.

I used Mr. Strenk's link to change the key lock cylinder in my tilt column on my '83 CJ7 last fall....one of the first things I did to my Jeep after purchase. The instructions and pictures were great, and close enough for my application. I splurged and bought the NOS AMC keyed version. Thanks, John.
