I got straight on the "nutsert" thing and got them installed. However, going by my experiences with them, I just assumed that sometime in the future they would "spin" on me. So I brazed them in with my little Mapp torch on a real fine flame. Worked GREAT! No problem.

One question I have for you is whether or not you had a problem with the length of the seat belts in the rear. Everything went in fine like in your directions and when I finally climbed in the back to try it out, I could barely get the shoulder/lap belt around my torso (I'm 6'2" / 190 lb so that shouldn't really be the problem). I also tried putting in my kids booster seat in the back. While that was a little better, it was still a tight fit.

I can probably try to rig up something to extend the length of the female end but I am curious to see if you had a similar problem. In your photos, it looks like the belt goes thru the back of the car seat which means you are not likely to see the problem. However, if you put a kid in a booster seat and the belt routing changes, you might have a problem.

Thanks again for your tips.

Jim
Sorry, been traveling alot and just logged in. I haven't tried to sit in the back. It was a full car seat in the pics. I can try the booster and see what it does in the next couple of weeks. The difference in the YJ and CJ belts(female) is about 6 inches if I recall, YJ shorter. I do not see how the extractor in the male belt would bind up or be short. It should be identical to a YJ 92 to 95 set up. Did you use the center hole for the belt changes on the female? Do you have a pic? I will get back to you when I see my Jeep.

Hi Bard - Thanks for the reply. I did use the YJ seat belt set with the center hole. I does come up just a little short. You don't need to try anything on your rig - I am just going to use a couple of those 12" aftermarket seat-belt extenders on the tub-side of the 3 point belt. That should take care of the problem.

Thanks again,
Jim

I'm in the process of doing this my self now

And have followed this post from the Begining

I had the 88 YJ roll cage that came with the 88 YJ tub

Converting this tub to fit on my CJ-7 body

I had bought the 2 side rails to the windshield off E-bay

But bought a aftermarket CJ windshield frame for the conversion

I have been looking around Richmond All week also looking for these

nutserts here I have been to Ace, Lowes and Fastenal

The only thing I have found that looks like this I have found in a Grainger Cataloge

so I ordered them and should be in tomorrow and hope these will work

had to buy a bag of 25 for $ 20.00 hope they will work they will fit a 5/16 bolt though

well guess I will have extras

But thanks for the Idea I had been Looking for an Idea to do this

the only other Idea I had was to get a 5/16 nut with the flared bottoms

( like they had on bicycle front & rear axles )

drill the holes turn the nut around and tack weld them to the windshield frame

don't think they would be as flush to the windshield frame doing it this way though

Thanks Again for the Post

Thanks for the write up! Just did this yesterday and love the way it looks. Had to knotch out the back of the front bar so my windshield sat in its natural position. Short work with a carbide bit and a half round file.

I would love to do this swap to my 84 but I am not sure I saw if the hardtop will still fit. Does it?

Sorry, no help here. I only run a soft top. It looks to me like there would be some issues in its current form, as the sheet metal screw holes in my frame are now inaccessible in that spot. Sure it could me modified to make it all work, but it would take some grinding
