Changed out temp sender;engine/exhaust smoke ensues

I thought my temp sensor was shot so I changed it out. I cranked my Jeep and smoke began pouring from exhaust. Opened hood and smoke from engine. Also liquid spewing from where sensor enters. What did I do? It was running great before this change out. THanks!
