Center Console for my '81 CJ7?

Hey guys,

I bought a Bestop console that's suppose to fit my "81 CJ7, but it's a plastic piece of junk. The bottom of it doesn't match the contour of the Jeep's tub, so you're suppose prop the back end of the console up with a flimsy bracket. I'm going to return it.

Have any of you found a quality console that actually fits the contour of the CJ7 tub on the bottom, and mounts securely?

Pictures or yours, installed in your Jeep, would be most appreciated.

Matt

FYI- most of the 'reasonabley priced' consoles mount with a bracket in the back, and stock consoles were all plastic as well.

if you want a solid, secure, manufactured center console, be prepared to spend quite a bit more $$$ (or simply bolt down an ammo can and call it good).

even my Tuffy didn't fit the contour of the floor. An it has a little bracket to hold it up also.

Thanks guys,

I'm willing to spend the cash for a quality product. I was surprised the Bestop version was so flimsy, considering the decent quality of their tops and seat covers.

The Tuffy looks more like what I want.

Thanks again,

Matt

Price wise I am more than happy with my Smittybilt floor console. It has a bracket for the rear also.

Just in case you're thinking about the original, avoid it if at all possible. Horrible horrible design, no cup holders in the front, and opening it up dumps out whatever was in the rear holders. I don't know how many cups of coffee I've lost to that thing.

Thanks for that tip, Jawbox.

I ordered this one, today. I'm pretty sure it's what I'm looking for...at least I hope so considering the price tag. OUCH!!

I have had my tuffy box for years, I dig it and the cup holder is the size of a can cozy.

Sleeper,

Yeah, the box is 16 ga steel, so I'm satisfied it will last.

Has the padded vinyl top on yours held up well over the years?

The pad is great, there are cables on the inside so that is doesn't open passed vertical that are broken, but not that big a deal.

I've got that Tuffy box in my CJ and I love it. The box is strong and secure and fits nicely. The padded cover has held up well too.

Cool. It sounds like I may have made a good choice, then.

Thanks,

Matt

I just installed this along with 2 a headunit and speakers. I couldnt be happier. Im not sure what the tub of a CJ7 looks like, but it was a direct bold in in the CJ5. I couldnt be happier with quality.

mandng0,

Wow! That's a great price for a steel box.

Are the cup holders plastic, or steel? I can't tell from the pic.

Hey man,

I have the Tuffy box myself, and have been very happy with it. It is a good quality console.

Before you get one though, you might want to check out: http://www.maxbilt.com/CJcommand.html

Also, you should check out page 31 of Boomvader's build

http://www.jeepforum.com/forum/f8/bo...oject-1085653/

He went with the Max-Bilt Console. Seems like a really cool, practical console.
