Center Console

Hey Guys:

I mam looking at making my own center console as I am too cheap to buy a tuffy. I am going to use 1/2" particle board and clean it all up with fiberglass to round things up.

Does anyonehave any pictures of what they have done. I'm still brainstorming so any idea is a good idea. Thanks in advance for the help

-Josh

Just throwing it out there but you may want to post it in a different forum to appeal to more people.

I would skip the particle board idea and do something a little more moisture resistant. How about using plexiglass instead?

If you are going to use wood, build a frame out of 1x2 hardwood then use 1/4 ply to cover it. I have seen some nice home built consoles done this way, then covered with vinyl car fabric.

The Smittybilt stereo security works for me. I mounted my CB in the stereo opening.

Not to mention they are much more secure. If you do it right, you can get as secure as a Tuffy or MaxBilt.

I have a nice aftermarket console and will be ditching it in favor of a 40mm ammo can.

Large Military Ammo Cans Dry Box 8x14.5x17.5 - eBay (item 390134122798 end time Dec-28-09 07:55:44 PST)

Large Military Ammo Can Dry Box 8x14.5x17.5 looks to be about the perfect size.

Much more secure, indestructible, water tight and much higher on the coolness meter.

Look around though, you can probably find them cheaper than the link I posted.
