carter carb acting weird

82 CJ7 with stock 4.2. Rebuilt stock carter carb. Installed the fuel return line and tuned the carb. Ran great, no flat spots, nice and even all the way through the pedal. Now when the motor gets hot sitting in traffic it seems to all of a sudden run rich enough i can barely keep it running. Popped the fuel cap and there was a lot of pressure in the tank. Seems to fix the problem. I know the tank is suposed to be vented through the canister and there is a line running to it. I have puled the line off when the tank is pressurized to see if it vents; no pressure is released. I will try blowi g through it when i get home to see if i can bliw air back to the tank. Was looking for ideas how to fix this as the the tank doesn't seem to be venting and most of my vacuum lines are missing. Don't need any emmision stuff here either.

You could just use a venting gas cap, if you don't mind polluting the atmosphere with fuel vapors.

Or, fix the venting system the way it was intended to be.

I had the same issue. Tank built pressure and blew out the diaphragm on the fuel pump and filled my oil pan with gas.

I'm installing one of these to help fix it. It's a roll over valve and a vent line. I'm reinstalling the entire system.
88 YJ 35's 8.8 rear, family style roll bar, ax-15 external slave conversion, Custom double D fab dash 4" of lift taurus fan, Head light wiring upgrade, MSD 6al, JB conversions SYE, 258 with RV cam, Long tube headers, Borla exhaust. 1"mm, Auto meter gauges.
