carburetor off the beast

I got the carburetor off the beast and noticed that one of the bolts was loose and there's a part that I don't know what it does that has a broken plastic piece. Can someone help me identify it? I don't have pictures. The part is just in front of the electric choke (towards the grill) and it's just bolted to a bracket on the carb. No vacuum hoses to it but it looks like it serves some type of purpose? Can anyone tell me if I need a replacement piece and what does it do? Thanks,

Phil

I'd bet that the loose bolt was causing my idle issue, but I'm going to kit it anyway...

Does it look like part of the choke linkage?

If I was home I'd take a couple pictures of the BBD I have for you. Maybe someone online will do that.

Man you 'really, really' shouldn't have 2 carb rebuilds threads going. That normally ends up with a screwed up job from information overload and missed points brought up in the other thread.

It's the dashpot. Do I need to get a new one? The plastic piece that "hits" the throttle is busted.

I seen a lot more BBD carbs without the dashpot than with one.

Sure it's not the solvac valve?
