Carb refresher

Need a bit of a carb refresher.. It idles about 900-1000 when cold, but after warming iup it idles about 1500-1600. First, I assume this is high, am I right? If so how do I adjust it down? I see reference in my manuals to fast idle adjustment. Is this what I want?

Yes, fast idle adjustment. Does it still idle high after you "kick it down" (tap the accelerator)? If so you should just be able to back the idle adjustment screw off to drop thje RPM's

most likely idle screw set too high. However, if it just started idling high all of a sudden you might be looking at a carb or vacuum problem.

Just noticed my Haynes manual says the "fast idel speed setting" is 1500, which is about where I idle when warm. Just making sure I'm understading this spec correctly. Does this mean I'm OK as is?

1500 still seems high, but I see other models are speced up to 2500. Am I missing somthing?

It's my understanding that your engine should fast-idle until the engine warms up and then it should slow down to the 680-780 rpm spec.
