Carb swaps can be pretty tricky. I did a Weber on a college student budget and ended up riding my bike to school for a while- getting them tuned to DD reliability isn't a picnic while school is in session. Did you try a simple carb kit on the BBD yet? Just because everyone says they're garbage doesn't mean it won't get you to school for a long time yet.

Well, you can do a search on ebay...MotorCraft 2100 JEEP Carb Upgrade 258/4.2 Non-Smog 1.08:eBay Motors (item 220504253850 end time Nov-11-09 16:11:11 PST)

Depending on your skill level, you can get a used carb, rebuild it, get the adapter and do it all yourself. You can get the carb at a junkyard or find one on ebay. A rebuild-able one should run you less than 40bucks. The MC2100 is probably the easiest carb to build on the planet, and very dependable.

There's a good write up MC2100 database? - JeepsUnlimited.com Forums plus all the info you ever wanted to know right here on JF, just gotta search it up.

Good luck, bro.

A rebuild kit for your carb runs about $15.00, is easy to put in and will just make it purr. We can also help with advice if you go that route.

Why do you think you want to change it? Lots of folks say the replacements work great, but 'anything' runs better than a carb that hasn't seen a kit. According to the CJ maintenance schedule or any engine's schedule, the carb is supposed to get a kit every major tune up or every time you need plugs and most don't get that.

To change the carb to a different kind, you will have to disable the computer and all the emissions stuff or the computer will only run in limp mode. This can be a headache for some, here is a link on doing it:

While I love to reccomend the Weber 32/36 for carb swaps, if you are on that tight of a budget just put a carb kit in it. If you have $350 to spend I recommend the 32/36.

There was a time when you could go to the junkyard and grab an MC2100 off an old Ford van for about $15 and spend about $20 on a rebuild kit from Napa and another $20 on the adapter from Mr. Gasket and have a sweet running setup for under a c-note. Don't know if you can still find them in the junkyards anymore or not, but that's definitely the route I would choose. In fact it is the route I chose. Only I already had a spare 2100 from a Wagoneer.

I'm in the same boat you are man. What I'm doing is slowly sourcing the parts to put a GM TBI on in place of a carb

I promise...you can rebuild this carb. You only need a few tools, some safety glasses, and some spray carb cleaner...that is, after you've found a carb. There should be some jeepers in Chattanooga that could help you out...heck send out a post for anyone in your area that could help you out. I think you'd be surprised.

The directions that come with the tune up kit for the carb are great, just follow them. The Haynes CJ manual also has the exact same directions, they work. I also recommend you don't unadjust or take apart anything that you don't have to to clean things. You will want to clean the metal line from the filter to the carb because it can hold a lot of junk and you will need two wrenches to put this line back on, one to hold the brass fitting in the carb and one to tighten the line fitting. The fitting in the carb has to be held solid because it is the float needle seat and will go out of adjustment if you don't.
