Can't shift in my Dana 300 into 4H . . . I think

This may seem a little pre-mature but I can't seem to get my Dana 300 into 4H, there reason I say this is pre-mature is that I haven't technically gotten my CJ-5 running yet. Its a 1980 . . I think I'm not sure what year it is, I'm in the middle of redoing all the break lines and completely re-doing the AMC 20 as well.

I noticed today just sitting in my CJ-5 that I can shift my Dana 300 in 2H, Neutral and 4Lo but I can't for the life of me get it into 4H but again I'm also having a problem "feeling" when its in each position, not really sure how to test this if anyone has any advice I would appreciate!

Thanks
Grant

I would not worry about it until you get it going. Mine does not like to shift still either, I get it rolling slowly to shift.

It would help if you could roll the jeep a little. If the gears aren't lined up it won't go in.

Pay attention to this if you have a body lift. A body lift can limit movement of the stick and can even cause damage to the gears by not allowing full engagement.
