Can't get bolt out of leaf spring
Any tips on how to get it out. I have sprayed it with PB blaster, tried to unbolt it, hammer it. I am lost. Any tips would be awesome. Here is one of them I am dealing with. Have 3 to get out. Thanks

have you tried a sledge hammer? I would probably cut the bolt and just pound on it until something broke.

No, haven't tried sledge hammer approach. I cut one of them and though it would make it easier but no luck. It is starting to mushroom the bolt. And also, I don't have a sledge hammer or torch, anything fancy. I am a broke college student.

Try heating the leaf spring with a propane torch. after the spring is hot hit the bolt out with a drive pin and decent sized hammer.

I don't have a torch, I might be able to track one down but I was hoping for another solution. I will start trying to track one down, thanks. Any other tips or ideas.

Don't heat it unless you want to ruin the spring. Have someone press it out with a hyydraulic press.

is is the rubber bushing you are trying to replace? If you have no heat (I;d get a hand held torch, you'll need it) you can take a thin drill bit and drill outthe rubber so the bolt/sleeve that is rusted together will come out, and the replace the bolt.
Sawzall the bolt off and do the same for the bushing. Either way, i'd replace the bolt and bushing, it's easier than trying to get it out. |

Hey tried wd40 pb blaster is a penetrant not a lubricant spray with wd40 and turn bolt as you are spraying it if you feel it geting loose turn it and hit it at the same time.it wasn't forced in and shouldn't have to be froced out.

Maybe you could rent something like this from your local rental joint.

Drill the bushing out around the bolt. It will take multiple holes around the perimeter of the bolt. That should give you room to beat it out. If it's a factory bushing then it should be easy to drill. Just make sure you have the spring laying on something solid when you hit the bolt.

ALSO, find a way to secure the spring so it isn;t moving. Secure it close to the spring eye so when you "whack" it, most of the force isn;t absorbed by the spring moving.
