Can an Axle be Checked for Straightness?

Not the Housing but the Axles.

Is there any easy way to check an axle and see if it is Straight or Bent? I have a suspect axle that fell over once on a concrete floor and may be bent. Would like to check it for Straightness.

Dial indicator?

Here is a quick way to check at home. Drill a small cavity in the table of a drill press. Place a ball bearing in the cavity and place the axle on it. Place another ball on the top of the axle. Run the chuck down on the bearing and turn the drill on. Observe any variance in the shaft. On the side, I doubt that tipping an axle over will do any real damage.
