OK, ashley just left and told me to order this kit from Comp Cams - then see if I can find Hesco to order push rods w/the info from C-Cams.

Here's a video of how the length-checker tool is used, although the geometry stuff won't apply to your AMC.


You only have to measure from one lifter. If you want to measure from an intake lifter, rotate the engine around until the exhaust lifter from that cylinder starts to move up. If you want to measure from the exhaust lifter, rotate the engine until the intake lifter from the same cylinder is almost back down completely. That method will make sure that the lifter that you're measuring from is on the base circle of the cam.

Hopefully that will help make sense of the method I was discussing with Matt earlier.

Wow-Thanks Shawn.

We are going to order the kit install and then a push rod checker - best way to go.

Then we/I want to order some push rods tat aren't 133 bucks for the set, but want hardened ones.

Let me know if you get lucky and need 7.800 on the length. I've got a set of custom Trick Flows here that are hardened, one-piece, .080 wall-thickness I could probably be squeezed for only shipping. They've got a few hours of run time on them and probably 10 dyno pulls.

Shawn-do you think if we order the THIRD and FOURTH one on this list from Jeg's we should be ok as far and the length to test or ....

Now , keeping in mind our current stock P-rods are 7.773

The master kit is just to expensive for this project.

Also-what is a good recommendation for a set of STOCK rockers?

I've seen some for 110 bucks etc. to much for this motor.

Is there a good hardened set she could buy ?

I told her it would be wise to change out the rockers due to wear from the old P-rods etc. - is that right?

Sorry to jump in so late, but I was really pleased with my Crower 'Baja Beast' cam for my 304, which seems pretty identical to yours (Edlebrock 4 bbl and intake.) It idles well, sounds good, and had great throttle response all the way to where my automatic transmission shifts (in fact, I raised the shift point by 500 rpm because the engine wasn't falling on it's face. I had my heads refreshed (3 burnt valves) at the same time I did the cam install, and put in Crower springs while they were working on it.

A slight overbore doesn't require any change to cam specs because it doesn't add many cubic inches at all (like 4-8 depending on the amount of boring.) It's when you stroke a motor that the drastic changes happen.

I used the Bulltear rockers.

The quality seemed good.

Thank you-they are expensive.

I also found these push rods ( http://www.bulltear.com/catalog/prod...n4opur544h9uk6 ) but will have to measure length.

Well not really, degreeing a cam is just checking and making sure the everything is as advertised as far as opening and closing of the valves and that they are doing that on your engine. If things are off which they can be the only way to make changes is with a degreeable cam sprocket the big one. Or return the cam.
