Does anyone know the difference ?

Orifice size.

I think there were 6 different flavors for the 258. California, 48, Canada, other exports...

Only difference is the orifice size. But if you are trying to pass a smog inspection either will work. The inspectors don't check part numbers. They only check for function. I will add it has to be vacuum plumbed according to where it was originally sold. For you most likely federal.

If you are trying to find the a valve with the least impact on your engine a high altitude version will have the smallest orifice.

So how do I determine which one I need, I'm doing a 83 restoration CJ 7, my intake/ exhaust are off a 86, is there some indicator stamp that let's me know?

Yeah, the size is usually stamped into it but I don't have the number.

Do you have an I4?

If you are doing a restoration and worried about the proper EGR with matching numbers, Why are you using an 86 intake manifold?

Awesome, thanks for the info. Does I4 mean 4 cylinder ? If so, I have an I6. I have another question if you don't mind, do I have to run water thru my intake or can I bypass those ports

I'm not worried about matching the numbers, I just didn't know which EGR to use or if it made a difference. The 83 exhaust manifold was cracked, and the 86 was available, so I used it.

Depends were you live. Brownsville Texas, Probably not but if you're above the 40th Parallel You probably are going to need to keep it heated so you don't have problems in cold weather.

It keep the gas from condensing on the inside of the manifold making it too lean at idle and stalling and too rich when diving as the extra fuel is sucked in. It's mainly for drive ability issues.

The aftermarket EGRs that I've seen come with multiple washers, so that you can adjust the orifice to whatever you need.

we need a chart for the nutted versions of engines.God knows 90% aren't running what they need to for a egr. How would you figure that
