Buying an old CJ

Ive been looking for a CJ for quite some time now. I found one that a guy is wanting to trade for a sport quad and seeing as how I have one im trying to part with things have kind of fallin into place. What are some main things I should look at when I go look at the jeep on thursday? The white body will have to be relaced with the blue one that comes with it pictured below. Thanks for the input!

Check and make sure the frame is solid. There will most likely be a lot of frame surface rust, but you want to look for places that there is rot.

Take a screw driver and poke around under there, and make sure to go to the very front and the very rear of the frame really good.

Of course, everything else you would do before buying any vehicle also applies.

if you can drive it down the road, of course check the steering,

other have advised you about jeep and rust!!!!!!!!!!!!!

most of these old jeeps have been rode hard and put up wet.

steering is suspect at best, but if you can not keep it out of the ditches, you could be talking more big bucks to make it road worthy.

also, be sure the transfer case works, can you shift into and out of 4x4, also check locking hubs, will they lock in and can you get them unlocked.

check oil levels in all gearboxes. jeep brakes are most times a problem, if they have been neglected.

Note to file: many old jeep have been neglected.

remember what jeep stands for:
JEEP: just empty every pocket!!!!!!

but, i have not been without one in my barn for many years.

Check it has the owner's manual and the service book is fully stamped by the main dealer.

Seruisly, that thing has been stood in a field for some time so I would haul it out of there and go over the frame and underpinnings.
