Buying another Jeep?

I'm thinking of selling my Jeep to get a new 1.
Question is
what year
kinda or motor
what kinda of CJ
I'm thinking of getting an older pre smog year 1975. Also i know i wont be saving a lot but a good motor that wont cost me alot in gas.
Price around 3 to 4k

I have a 1976 CJ7 with a 304 auto tanny. Its fun i love it but the gas and smogging it sucks. I live in cali btw.

That's kinda like asking someone what shoes you should get.....each will have their own favorites based on their needs or likes. I have and have had several CJs and FOR ME only, hands down the 82 to 86 CJ-7s are the best. In stock form, the 258, 5 speed , hardtop, and AC make it the most refined of the CJs. I have a 75 CJ-6 and it just drives and acts sooooo different than the later ones. Comparing stock that is.Of course lifts, big tires, etc will change things.
