burning disastre

Last sunday I wanted to go to an event with my CJ7 1964.
I started up the engine and an exposion occuured unther the hood.
Since this was a flip top I couldn't open it in the garage and didn't manage to extinguiche the fire with the small powder extinguischer.
I barely managed to tow out the burnig Jeep to save the other jeeps. Here are a few pics of this total disastre : https://www.dropbox.com/sh/72tafu8t6g9gi10/9mL-qZRIMY

A moment of silence is appropriate as we mourn the loss of a piece of history......

Sorry for your loss, were all the others saved? How did you get it out in the open quick enough?

I know this sucks, but it looks like there is still a lot of good parts there to start yourself a new build. axles, bumpers, cage, wheels, looks like you could even salvage the tub and grill if the heat didn't warp them too bad. Use what you can and start a phoenix build. let it rise from the ashes and live again.

I took a towing cord and towed it out with my daily drive ; I had 4 Jeeps and the daily is a citroŽn :-(

Rebuilding is an option, but there where a lot of special features, here's a list :
CJ 7 1985 ( ingeschreven als Oldtimer 1964)

Wranglerbody '89 + 2" bodylift + Fiberglass One-piece front End
Full Roll Over Cage built on chassis extra supports

Motor:

V8 350" 5.7L Chevy small block with inframe Hedman headers and Special
Stainless Steel Exhaust made by EPS Holland + Holley 670cfm Pro-Jection + K & N airfilter + 2 Optima Yellow Top (separate switches Winch or Start) + Heavy duty startmotor CVR
Assen:

Front : Scout Dana 44 R&P 3.73 + ARB locker + Warn heavy duty axles shafts + spicer 297X + Tom Woods 6.5Ē long travel driveshaft, 5 degree caster and pinion rotated 13 degrees so it was pointed towards the output shaft transfert case

Rear: Scout Dana 44 R&P 3.73 + ARB locker + Warn heavy duty axles shafts +Warn Full floater kit + CV Tom Woods driveshaft

Brakes: 4 discs + regulator front-rear

Handbrake : hydraulic on 4 discs
Suspension:

SOA with Custom made Wrangler outboard suspension springs with extra leafs and High clearance steering +Slick Rock heavy duty spring shackle hangers front and rear + RANCHO 9000 Shocks with remote control system left - right and custom made anti inversion shackles + custum made military wrap leafs

Tires: 36" x 13.5 x 15 Super Swamper Radial on 15x7"

Transmission:

T176 Gearbox and Dana 300 transfercase with 4:1 Terra-Low kit

Steering: Grant Challenger + Currie Heavy Duty Steering box brace + Borgeson heavy duty steering shaft + AGR steering box and pump

Winch: Warn 9500 i winch with bulletproof front custom made bumper and in cab control
Custom made Anti-Wrap Bar
Heavy duty tire carrier from 4WD Hardware
Oversize 22(100liter) Gallons Stainless Steel Gas tank + SS skidplate
Optima Yellow top Battery 2 pieces
Interior:

Cobra front seats + Tuffy Stereo Console + Husky front floor liners + scrotch auto seat belts
Autometer Fuel + voltmeter and Autometer mechanical oil and temperature
meters + 3 x custom made Aluminium boxes + rear seat
Exterior:

Stainless steel side bars + double rear bumpers

1 set metal half doors + 1 set full metal doors

Besttop Sunrider

Bikini top custom made

Cover alu boxes custom made

I was planning to put in an TH350 (had just collected all the peaces) and cutting brakes.
I don't know if I can put it up to replace the engine, shocks, ... even the ALU custum made boxes are melted...It wil take time and $$$

I think I will stick with the YJ 4.0 wich has 35" BFgoodrich 4,11 gearing and ARB and moser full floating kit in the rear and true trac in front, and a spiral conversion kit for offroading and the standarsd CJ7 4,2 for cruising. I had an YJ sahara 2?5i, but that one was just sold.

How about the chassis, some guys say the heat has ruined it, others think its still usable.
Are there any specialists on this forum?

WOW! That is a heavy loss. It will be hard to replace much less rebuild it. That must have been a nice ride and head turner in Belguim.

Are you talking about the frame or the tub?

I doubt the frame is bad and the tub look reusable.

I'm trying to figure out how the steering wheel survived?

How is the inside of the Tuffy box? Did the stuff inside survive?

Are those valve covers aluminum or plastic?
