Jacking the jeep up to free the body mounts (rust got em good)

signs of the rust problem (its eating itself from the inside out, there is also about a half inch of sediment throught the entire frame rail)

This will all be power washed and painted tomorrow, then transplanted into the 86 frame! Cant wait!

Got the trans and t-case cleaned and painted, now im ready for the pull tomorrow!

Looks like i need new gasgets???

So here is a question... On the frame right in front of the rear shock mounts there is a brace. How important is that brace, could you go without it? I just realized my 86 tub doesnt have one.

Personally, I would prefer to keep it. Bracing is always better with a CJ frame. They are weak enough with it, let alone without it. As far as the gaskets go, DON"T GET THE 3 PIECE GASKETS that most parts stores carry. Either find a place with the one piece gasket like you have, or order it from 4wd Hardware.

Why not just cut it out of the bad frame and weld it into the new one?

To be honest I just dont wanna deal with it. Im ready to get something looking like a jeep. I will have bumpers welded to the frame and that should be more than enough strength. Anyways my front yard looks like a train ran through a pile of jeeps. There is stuff everywhere. I gotta get this axle situtation under control and move on. I WILL have this done before summer ends!

Finally got the motor out. I found a set of quadratrac axles in NC that Ill be picking up on the 23ed. Im not stoked about keeping the quadratrac but it just seems to be the best route to go at the moment. Its more of an around town CJ that peridically finds its self off-road. Anyway I found it odd that ther was a spacer between the motor mount on the frame and the rubber one, looks homemade? Oh and dont ask how I got the frame out from under the hoists -that was an act of God.

Well Im out of comission for a couple of days. I really need thouse quadratrac full size axles. Ill be getting a set on the 21st or 23ed -Its revolving around my interview at the Greenville County Sheriffs office. From there Ill be going to Monroe NC to get the axles and then to Inman to pick up a set of headers. Looks like I have a broken dipstick too -Seems to be a common problem on the forum. Ive never tinkered with axles before but hopefully it will be a breeze. I definately appreciate you willing to lend a hand Danheit its nice to know good people are around. Id feel bad you making a haul like that though, but Ill let you know if I get stranded!

Hey Sail, just FYI, if Greenville doesn't work out, I just got hired on with Sumter PD....start date is the end of April. I believe they will be having another go-round. Let me know if you need any info. I am in pretty good with the recruiting officers. All I can say is that if you are just starting this process, BE PATIENT and be prepared for a LONG wait. Sumter is the fastest that I have encountered, and the process was still 6 mo. from beginning to end. Horry county was a little over a year, and the state is even worse.
