Bubbles in tranny oil

Anyone know what causes this?

It's never been in deep water

the tranny is stone cold, just some 'friend' got it stuck in 4th so i removed the top to fix it and found this

Just condensation?

Grammys CJ would on occasion build up water in the rear axil. Only way to explain it since all she does is drive to work. And 8 miles isn't enough to get things up to temp.

X2 on condensation of cold oil.
You get the same thing inside the engine etc also.

Moisture or other contamination.

Overheating by over compression of the oil can cause it also...

Are they JUST bubbles? It looks like aerated oil to me. I would expect condensation to cause white film on the sides of the case, like the junk that gets on oil caps sometimes.

Yeah, they are bubbles. No scum like I'm use to see in some old engines.
And I use the jeep mainly in the winter to plow snow so condensation could be it.

Feels rather thin to be the 120 wt I put in there.
Don't ask, I need to mark my containers better..

Oh by the way, don't drive your jeep with the cover off the tranny...

I drove it just 20 ft to work in the garage only to have a huge oil spill over the exhaust pipe....
Were is that dope slap icon....

When Grammys rear axil built up enough moisture to vent and freeze out the breather vent. Which would build pressure and then burp more oil. When I dropped the cover to drain it out it was just a coffee with a lot of cream color. No foamy cake like engine oil.

Those 8 mile trips since 1986 are probably what kept the trans happy. It's still original with 160,000 on the clock now. A999 (Grammy don't do stick)
