Well this is my first post on the site, so hello to all. I broke the jeep today, it has a good running Chevy 350 with all stock running gear in it. I was felling froggy so I took her out for a joy ride. I ran out first gear and grabbed 2ed gear and destroyed the rear drive shaft, twisted it in half.

Time to upgrade. It's not a big deal.. just get the checkbook out and apply for several credit cards.

I planned on lifting the jeep anyway and changing the rear end out and doing a slip yoke eliminator kit. I was going to have to replace it anyway.

Welcome.
CJ's already have a slip driveshaft with a fixed yoke, so no worries there. You may want to get a stronger shaft though.. ;-)

One thing nice about a CJ is you can just drop the rear driveshaft out and lock the hubs to drive home in 4x4 high 'front wheel drive'.

do like I did and have a custom 3/4" DOM tube shaft built out of the parts at a friendly machine shop.
from this:
to this:

then to the driveshaft shop for final welding and balancing.
Bet I don't break that part again!

I went to http://www.nc4x4.com/forums/index.php looking for local shops, and none were mentioned, sorry I couldn't help. If you were closer I would suggest Oliver's Driveshaft, here in Winston-Salem they do great work.
Later, T.J.

If you were in NY I know a guy that does custom shafts. He has a similar setup as you,
with Holley Pro-jection, he hasn't broken another shaft yet

I found a place called Tom woods Custom Drive Shafts that seems to do some nice work at a good price. They make anything from stock, to radical driveshafts. Looks like that might be who I go with. Since the Jeep is broke it gives me a reason to start the tear down process. Here is the link for Tom Woods,
