Brake lights don't work

So I'm a new guy to not only the Jeep world, but the auto restoration world. I just recenlty bought a 1978 Jeep CJ7 Golden Eagle. It runs Ok. I can can drive it around at least I could if I had brakelights. I 've changed the fuse, the bulbs and cleaned the grounding wire. I'm wondering if the stoplight switch is bad or if maybe there is a wire not plugged in somewhere (the rear lights work-just not the brake lights)? Any thoughts?

Bruce

you could check the brake pedal, there is a point in which the brake light engages when you hit the pedal itself, sounds like you covered evertything else...

my brake lights failed (its an 81, so it was time) all things checked out-- so now WTF? then i remembered all the brake light power goes thru the turn signal switch and then while driving it one day (w/out the rear lights, doh!) the left turn signal stopped working-- so i replaced the switch and presto! all works great!

If just the brake lights dont work then check the fuse and switch.
If both Turnsignals and Brake lights dont work, check the TS switch (Hazard Switch partialy in?) and harness.

Best bet is the switch on the brake pedal if everything else works, IMHO.
