Brake Booster

I put a Brake Booster on my 1986 CJ-7. All the hard lines were changed and a full system bleed. The only item that wasn't changed was the porportioning valve. Should this be changed??? Is there a difference between the one used on a system with a brake booster and one without? I don't seem to be getting the braking that I thought I would the upgrade.

When I swapped over to power brakes, I had to fab up an adjustable brake rod. When you swapped in the booster, did you get a new brake rod(Pedal to booster) with it? Or are you using your old one off the manual brakes?

One I put a longer rod on, my brakes worked much better.

If you upgraded to a CJ power brke system you won't see much of a difference. The proportioning valve is the same for power and non-power brakes.
Did you switch to a power brake master cylinder?

I am going to have to respectfully disagree with you on that. I went from standing on the brake pedal to 1/3 pedal darn nears locks up all 4 brakes. I put the CJ booster and M/C on mine and made the longer brake rod for it. Not much difference prior to the new brake rod though.

The CJ power brakes are much better then the CJ non-powered brakes, but overall still suck compared to comparable units. My old CJ had non-power brakes and I did the YJ swap and the first time I hit the brakes on the neighborhood test drive my head almost hit the windshield. Sold that CJ and the new CJ I have came with factory PB and have nowhere near the stopping power as the YJ PB's had.
