Good luck with the axles. Did you check the AMC 20 to see what happened. You probably just spun a hub.

Thanks. You may very will be right about the hub. I haven't bothered to dig into it because I was planning on doing this swap eventually anyway. This is just a good excuse to do it sooner.

I did bring some tires back from Denver... got my spool installed and rear diff set back up. Also checked out my radius arm builders parts that came in. Looks like its all there. Still waiting for my steering kit and rear disc conversion bracket. Hopefully they'll be here tomorrow and I'll have a really busy weekend.

After doing some reading and research I've kind of backed off the air shock idea. I would love to drop the cash on ORI air struts but I'm already stretching my budget. Now I'm thinking coilovers. I am leaning towards a set of King 2.0 Emulsion coilovers... Am I an idiot?

Here's some picks. Brake lines are only temporarily ran, u-bolts are way too long, cut some tube for spacers also TEMPORARY... so yeah, I'm tired and don't have a whole lot else to say right now. Not real happy about how tall it appears its going to be. But tomorrow is a new day...

Couple more pics. Last is relatively close to ride height.

Progress!! Amazing how a bit of sleep and stepping back improves my motivation. Things are coming together. Did have to order a different upper coilover mounting system. Everything is tacked together right now but it looks like its gonna work.

Finished welding and threw some paint on things. Gonna reassemble the control arms and such tomorrow and build crossover steering. Should be able to drive it out with the 2x2 keeping the front solid at ride height.

I don't know how I have missed this thread.

I think you should look I to a front three link, or four link. A front radius arm suspension will twist the axle tubes, or destroy your joints.

Also, your track bar and drag link MUST be the same length, and run parallel to each other. Otherwise you will have bump steer.
Great job so far!

You are very right, I never thought about how it would try to twist when articulating. It's so obvious now. I think I'll try to get by for a little while and then convert it to a 3-link. Thanks for bringing it to my attention. As for steering I should be dead on.

Just where is Bennington? East side I'm sure.

edit... Now I'm really curious if a guy could get away with only running one of the upper links on the radius arm. That would take the bind out and stress off the brackets. Anyone have any thoughts on that??

Bennington is almost a suburb of Omaha. It's right next to it. 156th street and Hwy 36.

There have been good reports on only having a three link radius setup. I was toying with the idea of building a similar setup on my TJ with a removable fourth radius link for off road use, keeping it for on road.

Crazy that we may be in the same state but but be hundreds of miles apart.

I think I may try doing just what you're thinking. Leave both uppers in on the road (what little of it the jeep will see) and try taking one out on the trails.

I've set myself a pretty short deadline, a buddy and I have a Black Hills trip planned in just 3 weeks. I shall see how it works.

I did get my steering together. The keen eyed viewer may notice the grade 5 bolts, they are just for mock up, I'll have to pick up some grade 8's this week. Also my drag link is about 2 inches shorter than the panhard bar so it is close, but far from perfect. Pretty much out of jeep parts for the weekend so outside it goes.

Couldn't help myself, mounted up my tires. Also go the right u-bolts installed for the rear. That's about it. Like I've said, the front will definitely come down 2-3 inches. I though about losing the spare tire carrier, but I think the extra weight on the rear could bring it down an inch or so which would be good in my opinion. Just wish my coilovers would show up already.

Deadline has come.. Still waiting for coilovers and upper mount kit. I did get some front brake lines installed (for a '75 GM with a 12" lift).. Trimmed the rear fenders a bit.. Bought a wheel and mounted up a spare and gave my driveshafts to the machinist to extend them both. I think that's all lately. Just waiting..
