Pulled the transmission and t-case this evening.. What a pain getting the 2 separated. Wow.. that's all I can say. Good thing the transmission isn't getting re-used. I was too frustrated to take pics, sorry. Hopefully I get the conversion parts from Novak this week, and I'll get my bell housing shipped off to them. I cant wait to get it done, it's gonna make a world of difference.

Well, finally some progress. I got conversion parts from Novak on Friday. Got my sm465 all cleaned up and ready to go to a tranny shop. (I hate transmissions) this weekend I built a holder for my handy man jack, put in mu new fuel tank and got my CB mounted and cable run. Its not much, but is progress. Can't wait to get it going again.

Just throwing this out there for anyone else doing an SM465 swap.. The 76-79 304/3spd has a 1 1/16th input shaft for the transmission... The SM465 is 1 1/8th... 75-older and 80-up CJ's have also use a 1 1/8th input. Glad I figured it out before I was ready to go together with it.

Finally got my machined bell housing yesterday.. turned out the one I had wouldn't work..had to get a different one off ebay.. anyway, I went to check on my tranny to see if it was close. It still hasn't moved in 4 weeks. They claim they'll have it for me by the weekend. I hope so.

Got my sm465 installed. Crossmember/skid plate is bolted up temporarily, I need yo hook up the t-case shifter and get a rear drive shaft. But it does move under its own power atleast.

Update. Got the t-case shifter hooked up finally. Got a new Chevy shifter boot installed. Tonight I moved the radio into the stock location, removed the previous owners home theater system and built a speaker panel for under the dash out of a sheet of aluminum I had. Already had everything for it so it cost me nothing. Driveshaft shipped Friday. Will probably get here while I'm in Kansas City for training.

I did get everything together and put a couple hundred miles on it. All seems okay. Added rock sliders today but required my mufflers going away. I'm not sure what I'll do yet, I'd like to get the exhaust inside the frame and run it out the back. We'll see.

I think I've decided to give it a coat of rattle can Farmall/IH red paint. I just can't take the rattle can sh.... turd brown color it is now. I know it won't look great, but it ought to look a lot better.

I went the rattle can route too Satin Indigo Blue from Lowes I was happy with how it came out and only took 3 cans. Scratches easy, and mud stains it so needs a clear coat or maybe a coat of wax to prevent that??

I wondered about clear also. I don't think rattle can clear looks very good because it lacks the hardener added to real clear coat. Maybe wax is the way to go.

Got a pair of Jones Full Boar Turbo tube mufflers from summit racing today. $60 shipped... in 2 days. They are tiny, should tuck up under the body well enough.

Where did you buy the 3" Black Diamond lift? Also, what are your thoughts on it?

I know that lift used to get very good reviews, but I haven't heard any reviews since they were bought out by a different company. (Superlift???)

I got it through quadratec. I'm pretty satisfied with it. Ride is good for a leaf spring rig.

Edit.. another thought, 5 years ago I had a TJ with a rough country lift and the terrible original design shock they had. This Jeep rides about the same, maybe even better.
