Topped off the transfer case, and rear diff with fluid, and connected the bottom of the rear shocks.
Took the Jeep for a test drive, HEY! Whats that noise.
And now that loud clunk and grinding. I look under the Jeep, 80w-90 is running out of the diff. Between the yoke and seal. Whoops not a driver yet.

It's never a good sign when all the bolts are off the differential cover, you pry if off and hear a clunk in the oil catch pan. Looks like the inner pinion bearing.
Ring and pinion teeth look ok on first inspection. I'm broken enough for today. I'm done!

Looks like I'm in 243's club.

Here's something I've never seen before. Its a mini toilet. A coworkers wife works in a day care, he told me I have to see it. So I'm shareing it with you.

I had him stand next to it for perspective.

My best guess it was the PO. I didn't do anything to the rear axle, just added fluid.

Well Bill it sounds like you are the MBP of your wheeling club. Yes I did say MBP or Most Broken Pieces. Do you get the throphy back for this?

I ran into one of them mini crappers before and it threw me for a loop too.

Just drop the rear driveshaft and drive it in 4HI, if front wheel drive vehicles are not quite your thang, drive in reverse

Yep, first time for me. I also did more trips than everyone else.

That would work if I had a front shaft. Goes foward won't move in reverse. In reverse the pinion moves down and away from the ring gear, doesn't even touch it.

That toilet was funny I LOL'ed.

Ok, I have some options that are $ generated for the rear axle fix.
1. Fix the Dana 35, with just bearings.
2. I have a wide track set, Dana 30/AMC20 3.31 gears, put both in.
3. Also have a narrow track 30 and 20. The 20 has 1 piece shafts neither has gears.
4. Hunt down a Ford 8.8, they can be found with 4.10's and a decent trac-lock.
Pro and cons of each
1. Its a 35, bearings and possible ring and pinion needed, also a SYE for the TC ($300) Pro's are, I'm not sure there any, besides the wheel lug pattern.
2. Mostly pros, very little cost, can use a Dana 300 (I have one, and it should bolt to the 700r4 by moving 1 hole. The slip yoke is there, and less drive shaft issues. Front lock out hubs and In a couple months I will have 4.10 gears that will bolt right in.
Cons are moving spring perches, and 2 pc. Axles. I also have a lot more CJ axle parts than YJ (basically none)
3. Pros, 1 piece axles. Cons, a lot more work.
4. Pro's, its a stout axle, with the same wheel lug pattern as the current front, and rear disc brakes. Cons, cost, more work, I would need to change from coil springs to leafs.

Thoughts, opinions, possible problems.

Help me out please, Bill
