I never would have figured that one out. Just what a young man wants to drive!

55* degrees in central Illinois, took advantage of it.

Started the 2 trail Jeeps, they have been sitting since the middle of November.

The YJ will have a CJ hard top, I'm not going to change the tailgate for awhile. Need a spare tire holder. The CJ carrier has to be used, with the CJ top.

Bill

I welded the passenger side brackets to the YJ hinges, after a lot of thinking.
I did have to shorten the latch side of the carrier. The drivers side bracket had to be notched for the screw holding the door latch. Used a right angle grinder, and a die grinder with a carbide rotary file to finish up.

All that's left is the lugs for the YJ wheel bolt pattern.
As you can see from the last picture, the pin needs lowered. This is pretty easy, remove the roll pin from the inside, drill a new hole, and reinstall the pin.

As luck would have it, I had to swap the hinges top to bottom. When I did this a year ago for another project, the hinges are top bottom specific. I didn't remember that. I the process of changing them, one of the torx bolts stripped the head. I even used never seize when putting them in, and only used a low torque air ratchet wrench.
So that is the first picture. You can see I used a old lug nut on top of the washer, no problem after that.

The new DD needed a little help with the spare tire carrier as well. The top area for the bolts is fine, the bottom was another story. 1/4" plate was used with a 1/4" backer.
Notice the gas filler, this 1978 Jeep came without a tank. The rusty plow 1976 Jeep had a brand new tank. There's a difference in vent and fill hoses. So its like this till later.

Haha forgot the pictures. Or there not showing up on my phone.

Back to the YJ tire carrier. I find I don't use the tail gate much, on any Jeep. The wifes YJ is the exception. Everytime you want to put something in, even groceries the whole thing has to be opened up, its a pain. The carrier still has to be swung open, but its still easier.

Any one have any thoughts on correcting a 4 cylinder
Factory tachometer to 8 cylinder. It a single wire tachometer with no switch. ( factory YJ) RPM's are 400 to high. I thinking a resistor, there is positive voltage coming from the distributor. Haha it felt like 4 or so volts. Thats according to the tingle between my forearm and the master cylinder. roflmao.

Thought I share this, I use a combo of things for hand cleaning. Boraxo and dishsoap, and the citrus stuff.

I picked this up the other day and like it best. Our Fire mechanics use something similar called Cherry Bomb.
The wife likes it better, she says my hands are softer. It must be true, she doesn't screem and back away when I touch her. ( this would be the BS part of the thread)

I tried the cherry earlier this year. Liked it at first but by the time I got through it I could not stand the smell of it. Went back to the normal citrus smell.

B&M Quicksilver install, on a GM TH700R4 transmission.

Pictures are pretty much self explanatory. Spent a good amount of time on the location of were to mount the shifter itself, sitting in the drivers seat. I'm thinking a cup holder for a coffee. One of the determining factors is how this thing works. From park the lever has to be pulled up 3/4" to access R,N,and D. From drive back to Park, it has to be lifted again. Its also a ratchet shifter, once in drive, every time you pull the lever back, it down shifts, The same with shifting up. The lever in this mode moves 1/4" and returns to center. One move of the lever means 1 gear. To get back to netural from drive the lever has to be raised again.

Its really just a bolt on. Instructions were good, with drawings. Because of the raised area on the floor, the black cover doesn't go all the way to the floor. Used tin snips on the sides, and a die grinder with a 1/4" carbide rotary file. (I use this die grinder a lot)It took about 15 minutes to get adjusted.

Becool #35001 radiator install. This is a no petcock, aluminum, crossflow, no mounting tabs, 2 core, thats equivalent to 4 core. The inlet and outlet are reversed from a CJ or a YJ, for use with a SBC. It was $200 with tax from the local speed shop. I decided to buy local if I had to return it. which I did, the first one was to wide.

This is basically a start from scratch deal. This radiator is 1.5" taller than a CJ one. This wasn't a problem, there's room. Thought about how to mount it for a hour or so, trying different options. there were only 2, hang it off the grill, or mount it to the frame. The frame mounting was doable but would take twice as long. I picked the grill.

after taking measurements. I came up with the bottom mount. They are 1/4"X2" flat stock bent to a 1.5" downward offset. Hopefully they can be seen in the front of the grill picture. The radiator has a 1/2" deep channel top and bottom, and runs full width. I have some very high density commercial foam I used in the bottom channel to sit on the flat stock. I also used a 1"x1" aluminum angle bolted to the front bottom channel, seperated from the channle with the same foam. A you can see the top bracket is 2"x2" aluminum with foam between it and the radiator. the foam between the radiator and angles are about 3/8"

The bottom angle is bolted to the flat stock. With the exception of the flat stock where its bolted to the grill, all the bolts, nuts, and washers are 1/4" Stainless steel, with either internal star washers or nylocks. These are leftovers from the fire garage. Freebys!

The hoses' were from #'s I found here on JF.

The last picture will be in a second post.

The finished job.

I have a couple fan shrouds lying, I may try to fab something. The engine idled for a 1/2 hour today, without overheating. the shroud would be more of a safety thing.

When the glass front clip goes on, the radiator will be mounted to the frame.

On edit, the blades don't look right on the fan, it seems like there backwards. Just looked, air flows front to back. I'm good. It just looked funny in the pic.

2nd edit, I thought I would add, when first trying to start the engine, I fried a ground wire. the one from the battery was hooked up to the alt. bracket, and a 10 gauge was run to the starter. Engine paint caused a problem. fried the 10g to the starter.

Not a lot of work today. Had a good garage fire last night. Up since 4:15, I was beat.

Installed new fuel tank fill and vent hoses, took a hour, what a pain. No room for a picture. Also spark plug wire spacers.
Tomorrow should bring working rear brakes. Install anew hard lines, and the flex line from the frame to axle. And maybe bolt the shocks back on

The best part of my day was about a hour long phone call with MoC.

Got the rear brake lines finished, yea, no leaks. Even had to double flare next to the frame while lying on my back, wear the soft line connect to the hard line.

Made a drawing of the exhaust from the manifold back past the skid plate. Had a shop make them up,,I installed them . Also bought 2 glasspacks. Got those on, might be a little loud, does sound good and healthy for a stock 305. The were $26 a piece, gotta cut cost somewhere

Not one picture, sorry. Bill

Took some pictures.

I also have a part to return to O'Reillys. Wrong part, the hole to bolt it to the axle is only 1/4", it needs to be 7/16" . I used some used CJ parts to finish. I'm thinking the axle vent might go in the same spot. I'll check the wife's 94 to check.
