3/4 ton J 20 with no lift and the tranny mount in the stock location on the cross member. With a Dana 300.
The driveshaft is a rear stock one from a CJ,
Finger reference picture :-)

That's a 1/2" bolt.

The front axle is a full width Dana 44. You you can see what would happen if this were a Dana 30 from a CJ and the pumpkin were more towards the center of the truck.

Clearance won't be a problem after the SOA.

One of our club members has a buggy, the front DS uses a pillow block bearing, 3 U joints IIRC.

I'm having a brain storm to maybe fit a 727 in a CJ7 or Willys w/no lift and figuring out a front DS

Sorry Jim, these are the only 2 of the buggy. He lives in Kentucky, I don't have his number. And only know 1 person that does. Give me a couple days, I'll see what I can do.

Vicki and I have been going to this Restaurant ( Steak n Shake) at least once every 2 weeks, since 1995. This picture has been on the wall at least the last 5 years. I don't know how many times I've seen it, but it's a bunch.

This is the first time I noticed "it".

Attachment 785298

On the left is a 58 Chevy, and I think a '50's era Olds on the right.

Attachment 785322

Attachment 785330

Ok time to Reminisce, my first date ( i was a Freshman in HS)was at the same chain of Restaurants, it was after the vice-versa dance. The cute little blond girl I had a crush on for the previous 8 years asked me to go, her mom drove. We stayed in the car (with her mom) and the curbie brought us milkshakes.
Ha, during those 8 years, she wouldn't have any thing to do with me, probably due to me being the class clown, and one of the worst students , grade wise. 7th grade was no help, that's the year I got my Hornrimmed glasses that were always Crooked, and also a full set of bright shiney braces on my teeth. At least I had all my hair then.

So jump ahead 20 years , I had worked hard one day, sweaty and dirty , and I stopped at the local Grocery store to pick up some things. The cute little blond girl was there with her Mother, I didn't go up to talk to them because of how I looked. This was a huge mistake, for I never saw her again, I found out later that she died of breast cancer, about 3 years later. She was only about 35.
It just so happens that the little blond girls best friend is now my wife, who also had nothing to due with me. I haven't changed except for the lack of hair, it's color, and a out 25 pounds. So the moral of this story is, girls/women apparently have vision problems and no sense of humor since before 1st grade, this lasts until they reach the age of 40, and have been married at least once.

Looks like I found the older men's hangout here. Nice to see, umm, read y'all!

Question for Bill, I noticed you said you cut out 1.25" on your rear (insert joke here) for tire clearance. Is that 1.25 around the entire radius, or just the bottom corners? If you have a build thread about this just point the way, thanks.

Hi Lee, This would be the place. :-)

I cut all the way around, this was so I could re-attach the flares. I attached the flares with sheet metal screws on the lip of the flare from the outside. Keep in mind this isn't a show Jeep.
This is a picture with no cutting and 33x13.50 tires and 10" wheels, with 3" of lift.

image-571821941.jpg

This one is with 35x12.50 tires, 8" wheels with the same backspace, same lift, and the cut sides . A couple screws are Visible.

Nice, thanks. I am considering something like that. My new purchase has 33x12.5 with NO lift. For old age reasons I don't want to lift it really, I should just sell the new tires and wheels It came with and go smaller, but what's the fun in that? I have been staring at it and wondering if I can make enough room for the 33s

Edit: this won't be for anything serious offroad, trails and streets.

Thanks again,
Lee

You have a couple of good and fairly economical choices Scrounger... depending on what you want to do. 33" tires are so common there is no end to advice on what is possible. But tires ain't cheap! If you have them, and they're in good shape, run 'em. You can run 33s with any rearend/gearing, if you're not hard on it. I run my 7 with the 2.73 rearend. I will change it... some day. But it works well on the street or mild trail riding. A 2.5" suspension lift will get you the clearance. Keep in mind you get what you pay for. You could probably get enough clearance with a 1" body lift, if you're not out flexing the Jeep. The suspension lift combined with the body lift is pretty well liked, and it gives you GOBS of room for 33s. You just have to be able to get int it, and at that point it gets more difficult for the, uh... infirmed! For example, Bill has to get a running start to get into his Jeep. But, Hey... it's part of the Machismo!

Scott is only guessing, he's not seen me get in a Jeep, I use a ladder. I'm actually 6'2", he just likes to think every one is shorter than him. .
Of the three Jeeps that are lifted, one is a 2.5" spring lift with a 1" body lift on 35" tires. Another is the one in the pictures. Third is a spring over on 36's. if I were adding a lift and bigger tires, I would go with a 3" lift with 33's. The jeep pictured above has narrow trac axles with 1.25" wheel spacers. Tires are a full 33". My 82 year old dad doesn't have much of a problem getting in the Jeep, he does use the bar between the A and B pillar to help.

The correct vertical challenged height would be 5' 8.750"

Thanks for the advice. I just noticed the front shocks are about 2" from bottoming out when the Jeep is sitting level, that must be why the front tires don't rub the front fenders. My to do list gets another addition

Would any of you be able to help me out with a small part? From beneath the horn button I need the horn contact spring and whatever little contact shaft thing goes below it. I can link to pics if that isn't clear once I get to my computer instead of this iPad. I have tried buying these parts and it's a no go, even from people parting out Jeeps on the classifieds here, probably too small for them to bother with. I am willing to pay of course.

Sorry to have interrupted the chat with my problems, carry on!
