As a matter of fact she did that this morning. I told her "no worry" George is coming down from Chi town , he's full of hot air, so it should be done a hour after he gets here.

You can pick up the gas can when your done! And don't get smart, or your going to look pretty funny going back to Chicago with a gas can spout as a tail.

I can here the ?'s already, " hey George, doesn't that hurt?
And your reply would be, well the spout isn't the worst part, it's the rest of the gallon can. Hahahaha !! :-) :-)!

So this is a interesting turn of events. You can see in the picture the factory excite wire for the altenator. ( the small black wire) from the '78 truck.

image-1725952419.jpg

It should connect to the black wire here. On the connector from the '84 harness.

image-3454837572.jpg

The problem is on the other end.
There's 2 black wires, neither have Continuity with the black excite wire on the plug in.

The plug in has continuity with this wire.

image-3555383412.jpg

So in the '78 J truck harness we have a black excite wire, and, a red with green tracer wire , that is the same one shown in the picture from the '84, WTH!

Well Bill Haney you have two failures with the excite, one is the wire and the other is me as I stretch and yawn!
Sir you have an issue of your alligator mouth overloading that humming bird arse of yours again! All that is needed to put you in check is a No Pest Strip, Yawn!

So I figured out the excite wire. The excite wire from the plastic connector for the altenator , in the '84 harness is joined with the red/grn wire in the loom. In the '78 it must be joined further down the loom. The funny thing is the excite wire has a extra 4' of wire, before its joined with the red/grn wire, it looped back and forth 4 times.

I bolted up the Dana 300 to the 727 tranny today, it's a direct bolt on to the tranny. The skid plate if you could call it that needs a little reworking. It's more of a crossmember.

image-4279142876.jpg

And when I post a a picture of the passenger side of the tranny and the front driveshaft you'll see why a lift is needed with this transmission. It's real close with no lift on the truck, and a full width Dana 44, where the pumpkin sits further towards the passenger side than a wide track CJ axle. Picture tomorrow.

Tomorrow, besides the driveshaft picture I'm connecting a out 7 wires, maybe eight.
1&2). Purple and orange from the ICM.
3.( grn from the ICM to the coil.
4&5.( a yellow and a red 10g . Red for the 12v supply, the yellow goes to the large lug on the altenator, for the factory AMP gauge.
6.( blue wire from the ign. Switch to the solenoid.
7.) red wire from the key in run position, to the coil.
8.( red/wht wire from the start lug on the solenoid to the coil.
9&10. Ok I lied, wires to the temp sender and oil pressure gauge.
Carb has a manual choke. No wire needed.

All wires will be soldered and Shrink-wrapped.

I found a front driveshaft under the work bench that worked for the front, that's good enough to move/hide the truck from the wife's view. The rear shaft can wait till I install the corp. 14 bolt axle. I will be locating the 14 bolt 20" closer to the front, for a 112" wheelbase, in a SOA.

The 360 is running in the J truck!!! Not without some minor issues. They were ground issues to the ICM, and dizzy, :-) they wernt on my list, so they never got connected.
Also had a vacuum leak behind the carb,i couldnt see the port, but i could hear it once I thru some mufflers on it. plus I had #2 and #4 plug wires reversed, and the fuel pump was sucking air thru a rubber line from the tank.

Edit, the heater core is leaking too.

And thanks to Gmakra, I was talking to him on the phone while attempting to start the savage beast, George mentioned the grounds.

That's exciting Bill. Love it when a plan comes together. You make it look easy.

If I had taken a video from start to finish it would be a long one. I started last Tuesday, spent a good 6 hours every day except Sunday working on the swap.

I can't believe it took this long. I swapped out the engine from Waggy to the truck in one day, all the other time was spent draining fluids, removing and installing hard parts, and rolling under and back out and under again to get another tool.
I still need to clean up some wiring ( last minute ground connections) , and remove 2 steering shafts and columns. And install the Waggy column and shaft in the truck. This is before I can move the truck under its own power, the problem is no way to shift the automatic with a standard shift steering column.

I'm also going to try my hand at a twin stick for the Dana 300.

You should see the exhaust, a Flowmaster 40 on the drivers side, and a shorty cherry bomb on the other side.

Bill

Found a picture of my 5 at the Superlift park.

.

image-2144088009.jpg

And this is what happens when you start the engine, didn't push the clutch in on your Rubicon LJ, and the netural safety switch didnt work. The Jeep was in 4low, and 1st gear.

Bill

Edit, steering column in the J truck.

And drove it out of the garage.
