I hope you didn't travel 3000 miles to drive over a culvert! And get hung up....

Nope, only 1,330. That includes the 380 I have to drive to get home tomorrow.

Getting ready for Silver Lake sand dunes at the end of the month. I thought it necessary to change to a less aggressive tire.
The tires I took off were 33/12.50/15 SS LTB's bias ply.
These are 35/12.50/15 BFG ALL TERRAIN radials.
This Jeep has 3" spring lift only. I had to cut 1.125" out of the rear wheel openings for clearance. The front fenders have already been cut .
I put the tires on at work, and didnt even balance them. At 50 mph I had no vibrations or problems .

Matt, I didn't have a chance to dial in the Q-jet. It was 95* every day, and by the time we got done wheeling for the day, I just wanted a beer or 3 and rest up for the next day.

Also, I got my renewal notice a couple days ago. I am still getting a parse error every 4 or 5th post. And the picture issue still isn't working correctly. So I'm undecided as to if I will renew.
Wouldn't one think a Co. That owns a number of large websites could figure this stuff out.
The adds on the phone app, are small and not really annoying enough to care about.
Here's a screen shot of one of the adds, one add like this comes up before loading a new page. I don't know about you guys, but adds don't convince me to by anything. I scroll right by them and ingnore them.

That would be cool. The dunes are in Michigan, I'll be there on the 25 thru the 28th of this month. I hope to install a shift kit or manual valve body in the TH400 before I leave.

KW89425 just sent me this picture. This is some serious flex.

Gotta love portal axles. It flexes that much just from the weight of the axle

Interesting Jeep work today. I took a TH400 tranny ( for a Quadratrac )to a trusted friend/ tranny guy and we installed a manual valve body. The manual valve body is just what is sounds like. It's still the same tranny, but, it must be shifted manually. Meaning move the shift lever by hand to change gears. So you just can't put it in drive and go.

One advantage of this is first gear engine brakeing on downhills. MoC would be the first to tell you, this is a huge plus on steep down hill trails.
It also functions as a shift kit to really firm up the shifts between gears ( read fast solid shifts, to the point of barking the tires when shifting on fast take off's.
Once a gear is selected or shifted into it will stay there, and not change until the shift lever is moved.
I have 3 th400's. one a friend gave me with Unknown miles or condition. one in the Jeep. And the one that came out of the black rust bucket with the snow plow and the 360 Jeep,
I chose the one from the black Jeep, based on info from the PO. And the correct choice it was. This tranny had $400 in upgraded Planetary and sun gears, the clutch discs' were like new, and a home brew shift kit that my friend said was top of the line.

The job took us 4 hours from start to finish. This included removing everything that could be removed from the tranny. I learned a metric crap ton of info. So much so I feel I could tear into one by myself.

When I asked how much I owed him for helping me, and he did most all the work, he said I didn't owe him anything!! Because I bought the parts, and he enjoyed the day. And I picked his brain all day.

I wasn't taking no for a answer, I gave him $250. I feel that still wasn't enough, for everything I learned, but he wouldn't take more.
He lost his daughter at 17 like I lost my son, so there is a special bond between us.

So in the next couple days I'll be swapping transmissions in the Jeep, and I'll think of him everytime I drive it.
Here's most of the internals on the bench in no Particular order. They didnt need to be, be knew where they all went.

image-1809590484.jpg

It was just a Incredible day!

He also told me all the things to watch for. And important tips when putting the tranny together. And what each part does.

I also learned about trans brakes, stall torque converters and why there important, adjusting the clutches in a top fuel funny car. ( so the tires don't break loose with 7000 horse power).

Bill

Edit, I know he won't read this post, but, thanks Charlie, your the best!
