With the zinc oxide in that stuff you can slather it all over your Jeep and it won't rust. Better buy a pallet of that stuff Bill, it may come in handy in your old age. You gonna borrow that little tent from your granddaughter for camping?

Cute little gal, papa Billy

I'll do a little Investigation on the J truck later.

Right now the DD needs a little work, to the clutch linkage.
1/4 mile for home this morning I pushed the clutch pedal in to shift into 3rd gear and I heard a snap, then the pedal went to the floor. The closest I got to 3rd was netural. While still rolling I got it in 1st and limped home. Then took the TJ back and picked up the part. Luckily my road is not well traveled.

image-153904098.jpg

Weird, both bolts that hold the pivot bracket broke off flush with the bell housing.

Bill

Maybe it was loose and just fatigued the bolts till they broke.

Make sure to check the linkage for wear. The holes that the clutch rod attached to on the bell crack and where the adjustment arm attach tend to wallow of after the years.

Your probably correct MoC. And I will be checking the rod, i wouldn't be surprised if its wore half way thru.

Ok, let's get started, I drove the Jeep into the garage in 1st gear, 4 low without locking the front in. Then jacked the side up from the skid plate and put the jack stands under the frame, then lowered the CJ onto the stands.

image-2076595078.jpg

As you can see the front stand Interferes with where I need to work. So I repositioned the stand to the front axle, and added a extra.

image-2630321829.jpg

So here's where we're working.

image-2550690097.jpg

Next step is a little clean up. More to follow.

Bill

On edit, good thing I didn't go any higher. The wife wouldn't have been happy with a broken Christmas coffee cup.

Yea progress, the tools I took with me under the jeep.

Angle of the Jeep on the stands.

both bolts out, I used the smaller of the vise grips.

Time for a break! Here's the creeper I use, the wife got it for me as a Christmas gift 5 or 6 years ago. I like the tilting head rest.

Broke Lucky.

Ok, time to find some new bolts.

Found some grade 8 bolts, put a little blue lock tite on the threads and used lock washers.

image-2709982564.jpg

On to cleaning the threads with some brake clean.

image-4078558303.jpg

Bolts in and tightening down,

image-946713789.jpg

image-1975083685.jpg

Time to pump the bell crank full of grease. The Actuating rod for the bell crank is wore maybe 1/8" , I'll order a complete assembly for replacement, the next step is some engine cleaner and the steam Jenny at work.
