The Grand Canyon is something to see, we started at the South rim and worked our way East.
To be honest, and maybe it was being in Moab, it wasn't exactually what I expected. I was expecting more of a shear drop off, as you'll see by the pictures it wasn't. The Colorado river couldn't be seen except for a tiny portion.
The further East we went the better it got, that was 50 miles . Then it got really good. At least a mile of the river was visible from the same spot, and we were much closer ( like 4 miles closer).
Spent about 8.5 hours there, it was hard to judge the distance but we were 10 miles from the North Rim, according to the plaques.

Bill

The pictures are from south to east.

Saw this crow, or raven close to the truck, Vick walked up to it on pourpose so it would fly, I got a great picture.

The Elk were not fenced. The fence was to protect some plants.

I don't want to miss any of these pics. Thanks, Bill, for taking the time to post them up. So glad you are seeing such wonders. You know that the Grand Canyon was formed when Paul Bunyan dragged his axe through there?

For fun pictures, I fed the bird some peanuts, I threw one on the hood of the truck. I got within 3' and tried to feed by hand. I tossed a peanut a foot or so and the bird walked up sideways, keeping a eye one, it was fun to watch them.

And I thought it was from CJ's running thru. Live and learn I guess.

The Grand Canyon is a must see. As we headed East on the canyon rim there were less people, making for more quiet surroundings. I do have a rant about inconsiderent people . I save that for later.

I truly glad the pictures are being enjoyed.

Bill, we are all really enjoying your pictures! I'm sure I can speak for many, we envy your "cool" vacation even though we are in the cooler weather and you are seeing some heat! I've been to Flagstaff several times and can say I would probably put it on my list of places that would be awesome to retire at. I've seen the GC from the air but haven't actually stood where you have and seen it close up. Althought it's increadible from 5000-ft, it must be breathtaking standing on the rim! Definitely putting it on my bucket list!

That desert is some forbidding landscape Bill. Can you imagine what traveling across that with horses would have been like? It's got it's own kind of beauty though. I'm enjoying your trip! Oh and next time somebody takes your picture put a hat on, your head is shinny.

It was 101 when we left Sedona this afternoon, it is Red Rock country, reminded me of Moab. There were a number of jeep rental places , and tours available in Jeeps . We drove down 89a for 10 miles getting to Sedona. Steep decents, 15 mph. Switch backs. It would have been great on a motorcycle. It wasn't bad going down, I kept the truck in first and second pretty much the entire time, to hold back my 20,000 lbs.
I understand there are some great Offroad trails in the area

It's is Jim, and funny you mention that about back in the day with the horses.
I think of that every time I see a obstacle , and imagine what they thought.
Just imagine riding up to the Canyon and walking up to the edge. They didn't know it is over 200 miles long. It must have taken weeks or months to find a way thru.

You should see my head up close, ( a scarey thought) . I got a little too much sun, Vicki says it looks like I have leprosy.

I did by this hat in Vegas. I'll think of how short you are every time I wear it.
Don't know why I bought it, I'm not a NASCAR fan. It is the only souvenir I bought, the 2 other souvenirs are a $12 hole in my pocket, and some good memories of what we saw.

I should have brought Skerr along for some shade, although he could only offer enough for a telephone pole.

ROFL, we cut the day short by 45 minutes, we are in Grants NM. For $17 a night in a camp ground,( yep, next to the CJ again). I found out shortly after setting up camp why its only $17. Every 1/2 hour a 100+ car freight train goes thru less than 500 yards away. Pulled by a minimum of 4 locomotives.
