Normally, we get around 60" of rain a year,
A few years ago, we got 30" in a day, with two counties being particularly hard hit.
The local firefighters were overwhelmed, as you can imagine,
So one of them, A trail rider, called all his friends and they called us and several others to come help if we could.
My little Jeep runs underwater. I went.
Getting utility workers to the treatment plant so sewage wasn't released,
Getting the water works guys to the places they needed to be to keep contaminated water out of the public water system,
Getting people to see doctors, getting people out of the RAPIDLY flooding areas.
Faster than the National Guard, Not bound by red tape like other agencies from different counties,
In and out fast!
The guys out west that fight wild fires, do mountain rescue, don't get any coverage unless it's bad.
The guys out east of us that found those missing grade school hikers don't get any coverage unless it's bad.
The guys that helped rescue the outlying areas during the hurricanes in the gulf didn't get any coverage!
My hat is off to those guys for taking their own time and resources to do what they are doing!
(not a Stetson hat, but a tip of the hat anyway!)
That's awesome Jeephammer!
Great guys and gals across this nation. It's always a nice thing when we all lend a hand. The more that chip in to help out on whatever situation arises the better off this country will be.
The democracy will cease to exist when you take away from those who are willing to work and give to those who would not.
