Best 1-piece axle kit

Which one piece axle kit for the AMC 20 is best? I have the narrow quadratrac rearend and am considering the Superior unit. I need the the strongest and easiest to install axles I can find.

I've got Moser's on my narrow trac and I'm very happy. From what I've read, however, Superior is an outstanding axle. They both cost the same...around $300. Beware of welded "1 piece" axles. The above mentioned are true single piece items.

You may want to check this out:

Good luck.

I ran the Superior shafts in my 9" with 36Sx Swampers
LOVED THEM...
either choice you go wether it be Mosser or Superior they are both good choices.. i dont think you could go wrong with either set

i think Mosser, Superior & Dutchman, are the only 3 that makes a Solid one piece, the others are welded.. Dutchman is a good Co to

as far as install goes...they all bolt in pretty much the same way, so finding one easier than another is kind of hard to do.

Mosser or Superiors would be a excellent choice

I bought Genuine Gear from 4WD Parts. I've heard good things about them and have yet to break one. But, it's only been a few months since I upgraded.

Moser, Superior Gear and Axle, or Yukon gear and axle are probably your best bets. I have a buddy with a Genuine gear kit. It's hard to get parts because they keep on re-designing the kit. Three times since 1997 supposedly. The people at 4 wheel parts have had trouble finding books, and part numbers, even though He gave them the numbers from the boxes. The moser kits bearing, race and lubrication system is more well thought out just like the other two kits I mentioned.

I am going to go with the either the Moser or the Superior kit. jadams68, where did you find them for $239? That sounds like a pretty good deal.

I know you've already said you were going with Superior, but take a look again at Moser. Why? They're the only ones I've found that offer a warranty.7

Superior has a Warranty ......... Also included in the Evolution Series axle kits are an "Exclusive" 2 Year Warranty on all standard spline axles with all Big Spline axles carrying an amazing 5 Year Warranty!

In addition, Moser Engineering Inc. will replace their 33, 35 & 40 spline axles for a period of ten (10) years after the original date of purchase if broken during use due to excessive horsepower.

thats the 2 warranties i found first one from Superior, 2nd one from Moser

hmmmm i think i know what i wanna do for my rear end now

Be sure to check if it can be used with any other upgrades. This sounds funny but a friend of mine upgraded to the superior and has a locker kit in the rear and we have destroyed 4 sets of bearings. When he called they said it was due to the locker. This was news to me but just check on it all.

I bought Superior axles from Central 4WD about a month ago and was pleased with the quality and ease of installation. The cost of $239 was the best I found, everybody else is around $299 for the same kit.
You do need to have the bearings and bearing retainers pressed on to the axles. Other than that it was fairly simple.
My project is still in the build up stage so I can't say much on how they hold up, which I'm sure the will

Thanks for the advice. The Superior kit from Central 4WD is the route I'm going. Any writeups or pics of installation? There is no such thing as too much help.

Brock,
I did a search on Google.com and found quite a bit of useful information. I've deleted them from my favorites since the install, otherwise I would have posted the links.
Other than the bearing install, you may need to shim (.020-.080 ) the axle flange for the bearing. I had used my old shims and it worked out well. The instructions are pretty straight forward.
Put a little gear lube on the seals before sliding the axle in the housing. I also made sure the bearing was packed generously with grease and put extra around it and in the housing. Once everything is installed there is no way of getting grease to the bearing other disassembling everything again, pressing the bearing retainer off and trying to pack the bearing.
Kind of a poor design but I guess it has held up through the years. Most axles have the gear lube from the rear differential lubricating the bearings.
If I can help anymore, let me know.

Greg
