Bearings gone ? You tell me.

Symptom 1
Jeep tends to have a slight automatic lane changing ability.

S2
Can feel like its got 4 wheel steering ? But may not be part of the bearing problem. I dunno.

S3
When i jack up the front wheels... they both have vertical play ... of about a 1/4 of an inch to 1/2 an inch each.

Bearings ?

And having never had to change em whats involved ? Grease ... jack... spanners... patience... and a bit of PB Blaster ?

What I found with mine was the bearing races had spun in the hubs - my wheels were loose like yours. I wound up replacing the hub/bearings - not that expensive....about $60/side if I remember correctly.

Don't risk it, if you think they're bad replace them. Don't end up like I did this weekend, watching my rear axle shaft and tire roll by me going down the road!
