battery not charging due to oil on the belt?

been dealing with an oil leak, and i think its from under the distributor. however, my battery died today. now the volt meter isn't going past 12, even when i rev it. could it be possible that oil o0n the belt is causing it not to grip and rotate the alternator enough? volts not going up when i rev either.

Most likely your alternator/voltage regulator.

Oil could cause your belt to slip, so if you have oil on the belt/pulley, you should clean it off and tighten it up. If that doesn't fix the problem then check your battery connections/grounds. After that... solicit "The Guys"!
