Backfiring problem 258

I've been having a consistent backfiring problem. Buts it's not like a gunshot sound every now and then. It's a mild thud thud sound at idle. Could the outlet on the exhaust manifold that connects the warm air hose to the airbox be causing this? I don't have the hose on it.

Just sitting there idling? Or does it happen at idle when you give it gas?

Only at idle. I can gas it all day long and not get it to make the gunshot backfire.
