Axle U-Joints for Dana 30

I need to by a u joint for the driver side on my 83 cj7. I know there are alot of different kinds, and depending on the year of the axle, it will have different size rotors and stuff like that. I need to verify that this would be the right size for me. Dana Spicer 5-260X U Joint Dana 30 Axle U Joint:eBay Motors (item 140335377417 end time Sep-22-09 09:05:54 PDT)

Any decent auto parts store should be able to get you the correct u-joints for your front halfshafts. I personally get the ones that are pre-greased and do NOT have a zerk fitting on them. I feel that the lack of a holt in the cross makes it just a little stronger.

1977 CJ7, AMC360 V8 w/ headers, DUI HEI, Edelbrock intake, Holley 4150 carb, , TF999, D300, D30 front and AMC20 rear with 4.56 gears and lockers both ends, 4" susp lift, 2.5" body lift, 35" BFGs, ARG steering, 8000-lb winch, etc.

non greasable u joints are stronger, and i beleive the 5-760x will work, it is the stronger replacement for the 5-297x. you should be able to get a set locally.
i prefer spicer.

You can just get the kind that grease through the caps...then there is no hole in the cross to weaken them.

I think the CJ7 dana 30 uses the smaller u-joint. And I think 5-260X is the number for it. The 5-297x and 5-760x are larger and will not fit. This is the way I remember it from when I swapped out my dana 30 a few years ago. I swapped in a scout axle and the scout axle had a stub shaft that was the same spline as the dana 30 stub but it used a bigger u-joint. I don't remember that any CJ7 dana 30 ever used the larger u-joint.

Jeep CJ Front Axle (1976-1986) | Crown Automotive Sales

8126616 or 8126637SP would be the right part for you...sent you a pm. Depending on where you are in MA, I could tell you plenty of local places that would have the right parts for you in stock.

Driveshaft shops often carry Spicer u-joints.

I am running the Duralasts in my driveshafts and front axleshafts and no worries as of yet. I'm not super hard on it, but I get in some situations none the less.

I'm a fan of spicers also, they are in my bigger Ford's. Just couldn't find them when I busted a axle shaft u-joint couple weeks ago.

I'm going to run the duralasts and see how they do.
