She tried real hard to get the rod out but it felt like it was in a "Z".

Well the beginning of open heart surgery on the Beast as Peach called it.

Ashley has decided to go w/a short block rebuild and she will learn to do the valve job. Great experience.

Look ma, no gloves.

Ashley is rebuilding her 304 in a stock configuration but adding:

Edelbrock 4bbl intake and 1406 4bbl carb.

Someone mentioned that she should put a RV cam in the 304 and I don't know whether or not I should recommend it to her. They also told me by her using the intake/carb it will help it breath.

Question, what would be the recommended route her for her to go?

Thanks,
Jim

No preload on the gear, just a torque value. It's been a while, but, I believe the gear and fuel pump eccentric use a woodruff key, as does the cam gear.

I would get a matched set of gears, espically if you can see wear.

One other note, it has to do with the new cam gear. You will see, after removing the cam gear where to oil comes from for lubeing the chain and other parts. Pay particular attention on the new gear to ensure there isn't any cast flashing where the oil passes thru the center bore.

Question.
Is this where the fuel pump rides - correct?

If so, look at this. It has a grove in it and if the new reman engine doesn't have one then I have to get one.

Is it presses on or ?

Yes, that is the fuel pump eccrencit

Looks like a lack of oil, the arm of the fuel pump is suspose to ride in the middle, was the arm on the pump Perpendicular to the mounting surface. Start your search for one now. I had a hard time locating one.

Also, after removing the timing gear, look for anything that could have blocked the oil path. I found gunk in mine when I changed the timing set. I'm just Curious.

Well, Ashley is on the fence about this S&J engine. After she has thought about it and checking out the fine details of the warranty and shipp/core she just might use the 258 I have w/90k on it that is torn apart.

We will see.

Ok Ashley was working on her cyl head and she found this. By the time she gets new valves (they are bent) and new seats she can get heads.
