Dipstick tube: Drop oil pan and tap the exposed part in the crankcase upward from the bottom. Its just a press-fit.

You might be able to grab it from the top with a screw extractor.

Thanks, I'll look a little closer and w/a flash light to see what I can see/to verify if any of the tube is sticking up.

Thanks for the tip,
Jim

I was looking at the frame, and the frame is ripped by both upper shock mounts (front). We are going to weld it this week.

I can't remember the Ford part number for shock mounts, does anyone know it and or the right size. If not then I need to order some factory stock ones.

Thanks,
Jim

Jim check out Parts Mike Tell him you need the 88 Ford F-250 shock towers, he will get you hooked up and his price is pretty reasonable and he is a great guy to deal with.

I installed them on mine with a MORE shackle reversal, YJ 2 1/2" lift springs and OME shackles, I am really really happy with the setup no death wobble what so ever, it is super steady on the road.

I'll be watching to see how it turns out. I just swapped a 304 and NV4500 into mine, really anxious to have it running.

Thanks for the info.

Looks like she is not buying a lift kit at first so I will get the standard CJ shock towers then buy the longer ones w/shocks. No since to get the longer one right now.

Ok found the high idle. Fixed the timing and crossed wires and she runs great/idles great.

Now I have a lot of lifter noise.

*Does anyone know if the 1980 304 has adjustable valves/lash?

Thanks,
Jim

Question. with this older motor (1980/304) do I have to run some oil w/leaded deposit/zink (not sure if I got it right but).

Someone told me it would help and to use Rotella T.

Thanks,
Jim

No unleaded will be fine and oil well lets not get that started LOL Pretty sure the valve lash is set and not adustable should be hydralic lifters you might try runining some seafoam thru the oil might clean things up but I would not expect much.
Was the compression low?

Valve lash is not adjustable . Lead additive is not needed in a engine that was Designed for unleaded fuel, 1980 falls into that Category.

I personally am a big fan of marvel mystery oil, I always run a quart through any second hand motor I inherit just to make sure it is good and cleaned out for about 3000 miles. Doing this has always served me well and I have had it unstick stuck lifters and free up all kinds of other issues.

You should be able to run this motor on 87 Octane, I also highly recommend going to an MSD 6AL box and Blaster II coil the stock 32 year old ignition is not exactly going to be a spring chicken any more, and even if it is working, it may not be working as good as it could be and will cause poor fuel mileage.

Thank you all.

I have not had time today to check the compression and thanks for the info on the valves.

She will be changing the oil this weekend and I will add a qt of MMOil. I usually add a 1/2 qt to all my 258 CID oil changes. She is gonna add a qt of MMOil and let it get hot then change the oil/filter.

As for the ignition, ya your right/spring chicken in time I guess.

Thanks again,
