Anyone use an 8.8 in a CJ?

Hi: I put an 8.8 in my YJ - great move. However, I am considering the same axle for my '82 CJ-7. Other than the bolt pattern, is there anything different about this swap? To me it seems like a good idea considering that the width is nearly the same as the D44 that I have in there now - I used 5/8" spacers on my YJ.

Why am I getting rid of the 44? Well, it's very used and needs everything replaced anyway. I have an 8.8, and for less money than repairing the 44, I can get the 8.8 ready to go. Plus, I plan to use 35" tires and a Chevy engine - it seems that the 8.8 is supposed to be somewhat stronger than a D44.

I'm in the process of doing this swap on my 79 CJ7. I got my axle from a 1996 Explorer with disc brakes. I'm going to have my axle hubs and rotors re-drilled to a 5 x 5.5 pattern instead of using adapters. I also bought the 8.8 install kit from M.O.R.E.. It's a pretty straight forward install. If you did this to your YJ then you should have no problem doing this to your CJ. There are several swap articles for the Yj's but I have not found one for the CJ's yet. I'm going to document my install as I go to have handy for others later on.
