Anyone put a Nova 307 in a 81 CJ5..coming soon

Yes, I plan on doing it because the ole 6 has had it, motor mounts are dust and most bolts bust when trying to remove them. Full restore coming on this CJ. The 307 is newly rebuilt. Any suggestions or things to really pay attention to.

Isn't a 307 a chevy 283 with a 327 crank? Or is that a Chevy 302?

other way around and yes a 302

307's are merely a 'standard' SBC. (one of the ten produced by Chevrolet)

now the DZ 302, that'd be a whole 'nother story!

First thing is to do your homework... Check out the Knowledge Base at, Advanced Adapters is also a good source. I have checked around and down the road I'm going with the following setup...

SBC V8 or 4.3 V6, SM420 or SM465 Transmission (Chevy Truck Transmissions 47'-96'), and my D20 Transfer Case (D300 would be fine behind a SBC)

You will need an adapter for the Transmission to Transfer Case.

You will need to look out for steering shaft clearance by your headders, engine placement to clear the HEI distributor, and a 3 core radiator with the correct inlet and outlet placement. Google CJ SBC or CJ 350 and you can find a lot of info on the subject to start out with...
