First thing is to do your homework... Check out the Knowledge Base at Novak-Adapt.com, Advanced Adapters is also a good source. I have checked around and down the road I'm going with the following setup...
SBC V8 or 4.3 V6, SM420 or SM465 Transmission (Chevy Truck Transmissions 47'-96'), and my D20 Transfer Case (D300 would be fine behind a SBC)
You will need an adapter for the Transmission to Transfer Case.
You will need to look out for steering shaft clearance by your headders, engine placement to clear the HEI distributor, and a 3 core radiator with the correct inlet and outlet placement. Google CJ SBC or CJ 350 and you can find a lot of info on the subject to start out with...

"Americans love a winner. Americans will not tolerate a loser. Americans despise cowards. Americans play to win all of the time. I wouldn't give a hoot in hell for a man who lost and laughed. That's why Americans have never lost nor will ever lose a war; for the very idea of losing is hateful to an American." Patton's speech to the 3rd Army on the night before D-Day.
